The 2022 Hell in a Cell is the 14th annual Hell in a Cell professional wrestling event produced by WWE. It will take place on June 5, 2022 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It will the 14th event under the Hell in a Cell chronology.

Production

Background

Hell in a Cell is an annual gimmick pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network event, generally produced every October by WWE since 2009. The concept of the show comes from WWE's established Hell in a Cell match, in which competitors fight inside a 20-foot-high roofed cell structure surrounding the ring and ringside area. The main event match of the card is contested under the Hell in a Cell stipulation.[1][2][3] The 2021 event was moved from October slot to June for the first time since 2018 when it shifted back to September.[4] The 2021 event will be the 13th event under the Hell in a Cell chronology and featured wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brands.[5]

Storylines

The show will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands,[6][7] while storylines are produced on WWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.[8]
