EARLY LIFE

Sethembile Msezane was born in the year 1991 in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and was raised in Johannesburg. Her initial encounter with creative expression like most children was through drawing. She was challenged by peers who claimed that girls can’t draw. She then went home and pulled out her puzzles and drew the best picture. This is where all this producing best work came from.

CAREER

She completed her Masters in Fine Art in 2017 at the University of Cape Town(UCT). Which is where she also obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012. She uses interdisciplinary practice including performance, photography, film sculptures and drawing.

PERFORMANCES

Her work have been exhibited across South Africa and Internationally and forms part of South Africa museum collection such as Zeitz Mocaa in Cape Town , the Iziko South African National gallery in Cape Town and University of South Africa(UNISA) in Johannesburg. She presented performance such as Chapungu-The Day Rhodes fee at the removal of the Cecil John Rhodes statue in University of Cape Town , year 2015. She has also done solo exhibition , Speaking Through walla at Tyburn Gallery and presented her newest performance piece , Signal Her Return III at New Art Exchange in Nottingham in UK. She did ICA Live Art festival in Cape Town, year 2016
