Kuppusamy Annamalai[2][3] an Indian politician and former police officer. He was chosen to hold this position on July 8, 2021. State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu[4]

Early Life

Annamalai was born on June 4, 1984, in a farming family at Sokkampatti near Chinnathpuram in Karur. He belongs to the Kongu flood-counter community.[5] His father's name is Kuppuswami, and his mother's name is Parameshwari. Annamalai is married to Akila Swaminathan.

Education

He was raised in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and finished his education in the districts of Karur and Namakkal. He received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Saw Co. College of Technology. After that, Annamalai pursued and graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow), Uttar Pradesh, with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a marketing and strategy concentration. He eventually passed the UPSC and entered the police service.[6]

Police Profession

He joined the Indian Police Service in 2011. He started in Udupi district in September 2013 as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala sub-division. He was later promoted as Superintendent of Police at the same location on January 1, 2015 and served as District Superintendent of Police till August 2016. He was later transferred to Chikmagalur district of Karnataka and continued as the District Chief Superintendent of Police till October 2018. In 2018, he was promoted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South.[7]

Political Life

He resigned from his IPS post in 2019. He then returned to his home state of Tamil Nadu. He was interested in natural farming and engaged in related work. Later, he became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a political party inspired by the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).[8][9][10][11]

He contested the Tamil Nadu 2021 Assembly Elections from the Aravakurichi Assembly Constituency and lost by a narrow margin. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu State Unit President After Murugan became Union Minister, Annamalai was appointed President to fill the vacant post.[12] [13][14]
