The English Wikipedia requires that all information be verifiable by being sourced to reliable sources. Many of the best sources are available through the internet, however most are proprietary and cannot be obtained without special access permissions. Here is collected information on how many of these sources can be accessed by Wikipedians.

Library Proxies

All accredited institutions in North America, Europe and Australia offer electronic access to proprietary academic resources through their libraries to students and employees. Many students are not aware however that these libraries offer proxy server access to these resources from home and via other internet connections. Many public libraries also offer similar access. Here is a list of links to library websites detailing proxy access:

The Wikipedia Library

The Wikipedia Library is a project in progress that obtains subscriptions to online databases for qualified Wikipedians. Access to JSTOR, Questia Online Library, Credo Reference and Highbeam Research is available.

Resource Exchange

The Resource Exchange includes a Resource Request where editors may request sources from other Wikipedians. See also the Shared Resources list. List_of_academic_databases_and_search_engines

Open Access Catalogue

The Open Access Catalogue of the Open Access Wikiproject lists resources that offer free, non-proprietary access.

Wikipedia Lists

The English Wikipedia maintains a list of academic databases and search engines and a list of digital library projects. These are general lists of both open and proprietary sources; the lists themselves offer no special access.

Biodiversity Heritage Library

The Biodiversity Heritage Library hosts many issues of biology journals.
