Generalizing with new parameters

I'd like to merge this with Template:ODNBsub by adding new parameters:

  • |paren=boolean yes or no
  • |bold=boolean yes or no
  • |sentence=boolean yes or no
  • |link=URL

I'd like to use Template:link notes, but I don't see how to make parentheses optional with that. Maybe I'll copy it's CSS class.
