Template talk:SleepSeries2/Archive1

I created this template because I've been through the articles related to sleep several times, and I felt something was missing to tie them all together. Ironically, I created this template near midnight (my time zone), and am too tired to compleate it now. I don't know when I'll be able to log in again, so my only hope is that someone else will finish where I took off. I think I've put in the general idea of what my intention with this is. Some other things I was thinking of adding to the list were:

I think this belongs in Category:Medical navigational boxes. It doesn't belong in Category:Sleep as that's an article category. But I wanted to see if anyone thinks there's a better category for this (all the medical nav boxes are set up a certain way and this may encompass more than just medical articles about sleep). --Galaxiaad 01:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm expanding it...Focusing on disorders and sleep-related phenomena

Take a look and let me know what you think. I'll probably be expanding it spanning a few days.

I'm just adding the tags to the template and the articles. The format will be messed up on most of the them, but I'm not an expert in spacing... (eventually needs to be fixed) Erik212 04:35, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Format problems with a few articles

The articles slow-wave sleep, theta wave, delta wave and a few other articles have pictures that are sent to the bottom of the series table. I have temporarily fixed it by moving the images to the left side. Someone with more formatting expertise please review this. Erik212 15:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

formatting/placement

I wonder if it would be more appropriate to make this a horizontally-oriented box at the bottom of pages instead of a vertical box at the top. Certainly theta rhythm is related to sleep, but even just looking at the article it, the page isn't very focused on the sleep aspect (and the same for gamma wave, for instance). The box itself also doesn't look so great on my screen formatting-wise and the colors and lack of a border make it look odd (c.f. the box on, e.g., saturn). digfarenough (talk) 22:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree

But then how will people know that the article is part of the series if its all the way at the bottom? -erik212 9/11/07

Because they will have read the whole page and come to the end? In my experience, most of these "series" boxes are at the bottom of the page, rather than at the top. I could be wrong, as I haven't examined many of them. I know the box wreaks havoc on the formatting of any page I've seen with it. And on disorders like parasomnia it pushes the classification box all the way down to the bottom, whereas it seems to me that it should be at the top. digfarenough (talk) 15:48, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's part of the infopox endemic. All infopoxes should be put together in a wikibook (cf. wikibooks) and/or the user should have the option of reading the wikipedia with or without the infopoxes which are becoming quite disruptive for the users that want to read something else than lists. To yawn or to self-conduct?

The artist of the self-ironic self-portrait picture didn't intended but it appears to the casual and to the intrigued wikireader to be an image depicting a classical music (yes, there is such genre) conductor without baton (yes, there are such conductors). Moreover, if you followed the scientific news you had to read recent research about yawning to be unrelated to sleep but to... (well, look it up -- this is a comment and not an article). gamma

Anyone have a reference that says that gamma waves are considered a subset of beta waves during sleep? Edit summaries have claimed it, I've never heard that before. I've only ever heard gamma being discussed as its own rhythm, but I haven't read much sleep research. digfarenough (talk) 15:50, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the picture with nudity necessary?

Why is there a picture with nudity in this template... most people (afaik) sleep with clothing on, plus I think nudity should be avoided unless absolutely necessary... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andkore (talkcontribs) 03:04, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

People in tropical zones do sleep in the nude if they have protection against mosquitoes. And you replace nudity for two underage girls under the blankets so we don't see but imagine... curiouser, curiouser, said Alice... Jclerman 03:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Most sleepers indeed sleep without clothes. Notice that the flagship article of this serious series, Sleep, does not apply only to humans but to all animals that sleep. Jclerman 03:31, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow I'm really sorry, I only briefly checked looked over the picture and I thought it was just a "normal" couple, with clothing on, not two underage brothel workers! The current picture is great, thanks for fixing this. andkore 03:17, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought a vertical list could end up running down the full length of some articles. I also take an earlier point that people might not know there is such a list if I moved it to the bottom of the article (mostly people new to reading wikipedia articles). So I've kept the main subject headings in this template and directed readers to the new navbox "SleepSeries2" I put at the bottom of each article. Hope thats OK K.murphy 11:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete?

This template should either be improved (a lot!), or just deleted. As it currently is, it serves no purpose whatsoever (it just points further down to Template:SleepSeries2), and is really just useless. Anyone up for fixing it? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 15:38, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
