The pages that are not PC-protected still having the template after it expires, for example Beneath Your Beautiful. I'm going to left the template at that page in case something should be changed. Updated template parameters

I've made a change to the template's sandbox code so that it will show an expiry date and custom reason in the hover-over message. Would an admin please copy over the code from the sandbox. There is also an updated documentation subpage at User:Callanecc/doc which explains how it works. I've tested it with different parameters and as long as it is used per the documentation it'll work just fine. Any problems please leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 04:45, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Nice work on the coding! You can update the /doc subpage yourself, as it's not protected. (It's also a good idea to do it yourself so that the attribution of the text doesn't depend on User:Callanecc/doc not being deleted.) — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 20:13, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Yeah I thought it'd be a good idea to update it myself, but want to give you it to look at, and the option to do it yourself if you wanted too. Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 03:32, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap

On my computer, this template seems to overlap the topicon of {{Spoken Wikipedia}} (specifically {{Spoken Wikipedia boilerplate}}). See Star Trek for example. HueSatLum 02:10, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And Julius Caesar for another. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 05:14, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is a known issue, and it requires a fix to Template:Pp-meta. The idea is that the PC padlock should go where all the other padlocks go, and that when a page is both semi-protected and PC-protected we should use only the semi-protection padlock. Unfortunately, doing that will require restructuring the template, which is not going to be an easy job. My preferred solution is to rewrite the whole thing as a Lua module, but I haven't got around to it yet. Template should be invisible if page is fully protected or not PC1-protected

Proposal:

Please change the code so that

  • if the page is NOT protected with PC1-level protection then the template is essentially inactive (or perhaps put in a category for mis-applied protection templates),
  • if the page is fully protected AND has PC1-level protection, as Tiger versus lion is for the next few days, the template will not be visible but the categories will still be present.

If there are no unresolved objections within a week (or within a week of the last objection being resolved), please consider this an {{edit protected}} request. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:28, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 24 May 2015

Currently, when a user floats over the padlock icon for this template, the pop-up message reads "The article is semi-protected until [June 24, 2015] for [vandalism, etc.]" Shouldn't that be changed to "The article is pending changes protected until [June 24, 2015] for [vandalism, etc.]" (or something along those lines)?... Anyway, hopefully somebody can take a look at this, if necessary. Thanks in advance. Note: I have included no code in this request, because that is quite beyond me! --IJBall (talk) 16:26, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@IJBall: Where are you seeing this? Alakzi (talk) 16:39, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, good catch @Alakzi: – you're right: now that I've checked, I'm not seeing this everywhere (so I withdraw my original request...). I'm only seeing it at Russians – is that article both PC1 and semi protected?... --IJBall (talk)
Correct; semi protection is set to expire in June. I suppose Module:Protection banner prioritises edit protection. Alakzi (talk) 16:47, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. I've added a {{pp}} tag to Russians as well, so I think this is now sorted. Thanks again, Alakzi! --IJBall (talk) 16:59, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes

Callanecc, Mr. Stradivarius: The documentation says

  • If protection is set without an expiry date (indefinitely) do not include the |expiry= parameter. Do not use |expiry=indef (or indefinitely) as this will break the template.

But if you don't do that, the page is put in Category:Wikipedia protected pages without expiry. What does "this will break the template" mean, exactly? The page is categorised into Category:Wikipedia pending changes protected pages (level 1); the silver padlock is displayed; it has the tooltip "All edits by unregistered and new users are subject to review" and links to Wikipedia:Protection policy#pc1. What's the problem? --Redrose64 (talk) 20:57, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrose64: There's no problem - I must have just not noticed that part of the docs when I made the switch to Module:Protection banner. I've removed it. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 00:45, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Wikipedia pending changes protected pages (level 1) renamed

Category:Wikipedia pending changes protected pages (level 1) has been renamed to Category:Wikipedia pending changes protected pages - how do we get the template updated? I can't find the relevant text anywhere. Timrollpickering 11:14, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Timrollpickering: The template is no longer a true template, nowadays it invokes a Lua module: Module:Protection banner, but that's not the whole story - there are several submodules. I think that all that is needed is this edit. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:21, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
