Interview link
A recent edit removed the additional link to Index to Interviews as "unnecessary". The template links (so far) to the shows where the musicians talk about their own music (and in which their music is featured). However, some of the musicians (e.g. Ray Charles, Phil Spector, Pete Townshend, & Frank Zappa) gave wide ranging interviews where they talked about other musical styles as well; those parts of these interviews show up when the other styles are featured. The interview link can help the interested reader find the other parts of the interview. So I will restore it pending further discussion here.
The University of North Texas Music Library has the original interview tapes,[1] but these don't seem to be available online, at least not yet. DougHill (talk) 18:18, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, but it has been removed. Aside from the visual clutter of multiple external links, this is not even necessary. Users can easily make the change themselves from the first link. (Per WP:EL, we try to limit external links as much as possible.) --Ckatzchatspy 23:15, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "make the change"? If you mean that they can find this information from the first link, actually, it doesn't seem to be there. DougHill (talk) 18:53, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've double checked, and I still don't see where you find the interview information from the first link. (Are you seeing something that I've missed?) The user can easily follow the interview link to find interesting info about the interview (such as its date and place) which is missing from the first link. DougHill (talk) 20:37, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- As it turns out, the link is already present in the main Wikipedia article, which is linked at the end of the template. Again, we do not link excessively in templates (or anywhere else, for that matter). --Ckatzchatspy 21:36, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
1969 or 1970?
According to [2] and [3], the Pop Chronicles began broadcasting on Sunday, February 9, 1969, with a new show following each week. (1969 has the same calendar as the current year.) Thus by my reckoning, any show after 47 must have been first broadcast in 1970. So I propose that we add a conditional to the template, so that it displays (1970) instead of (1969) for any show after 47. DougHill (talk) 02:12, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Include show and track numbers?
The UNT Music Library renumbered the start= numbers (e.g. at: https://digital.library.unt.edu/search/?fq=str_title_serial%3A%22The+Pop+Chronicles+%28John+Gilliland+Collection%29%22&sort=date_a&start=0). So I edited template:Pop Chronicles url so that following this template's links should lead you to the list with the desired show on top. (There was about a day that this template would have taken users to an earlier show.) But I propose that we include the show number (and the track number) with the listings this template generates. This would help users find the right track for the show, and help them find the show if there is another renumbering. Thoughts? DougHill (talk) 19:00, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
