Links

I see we have linked "Johannesburg North" and "Johannesburg South" and labelled them as "Northern suburbs" and "Southern suburbs" respectively. However, there are things we must note:

  1. Johannesburg North is the name of a small suburb in Randburg, just east of Northriding (you can use any GPS to verify this). So, we cannot let the term "Northern suburbs" link to an article that is only talking about that small area!
  2. Johannesburg South is the name of a number of suburbs together in the "southern area of Johannesburg". Now, we must understand that the name "Johannesburg South" represents "only" the "Southern suburbs of Johannesburg City" (go on "Google Maps" & search for "Johannesburg South" to get the exact area). So, we can't let the term "Southern suburbs" link to an article that is talking about an area that does not include "Soweto, Lenasia, Orange Farm, Kanana Park, Ennerdale, Lawley, etc".
  3. Just letting editors know the areas that "Johannesburg North" & "Johannesburg South" represent, which is contrary to this template currently. GeographicAccountant (talk) 11:44, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe a "Heading name change" will do here, as Orange Farm, Midrand & Randburg among others are all "towns" (each with their own "Suburbs"). They are not "suburbs" themselves. A municipality or "great area" contains "towns and cities" & it's wrong to call any of these "Cities" as "suburbs". GeographicAccountant (talk) 12:27, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"The northern suburbs" is the commonly-used term in the greater Johannesburg area for the whole of northern Johannesburg though. Admittedly southern Johannesburg is more commonly referred to as "the south" than as "the southern suburbs" and Midrand is normally considered to be north of the northern suburbs, so I've changed the headings to "northern/southern suburbs and environs; I hope this adequately addresses this issue. The other solution that could work would involve separating Midrand and Soweto (normally also considered separate from "the south") into their own sub-sections. East Rand

I have noticed that Linksfield is listed under "northern environments" meanwhile Orange Grove, Norwood and Victoria, Johannesburg (which are all to the west of Linksfield) are listed under "East Rand", indicating that something is wrong here.

Apart from Modderfontein, Greenstone Hill & maybe Linksfield, are there any other places within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality that are declared as part of the East Rand? The "East Rand" article's description of the area seems to be slightly different from this template & i'm curious on which one is accurate... I'm Surprised that nobody has replied after 4 and a half days. Well, from the way I understand the East Rand article's description of the area, there is no place further west than Linksfield that is part of the "East Rand" & so, I will move the Orange Grove, Norwood & Victoria articles to "Northern suburbs", assuming nobody objects. I can't believe the idea that any suburb that Louis Botha Avenue passes through is part of the "East Rand". GeographicAccountant (talk) 11:12, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
