"And Friends"

I don't like these titles - are they even necessary? I'd like to propose a revert to the previous layout, or re-titling the new one. Any suggestions for more appropriate headings? QmunkE 13:53, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes. Deleting 'and Friends' post haste, this is not a five minute kid's after-school show here. I'll put in 'saga' until someone comes up with a better idea. ...And done. I also just replaced 'The Elder Gods and Friends' with 'The Dreamers', since there's just the one series there. But that's a bit tautological. I think a layout that allows us to group the Garion saga, and the Sparhawk saga, while not having to group The Dreamers, Althalus, etc. with anything, would be desirable. Ideas? O Wiki layout experts? -- Perey 14:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the template wording again (Saga to novels) and added Edding's other works, also resized it and moved it to the bottom of the articles as is common with templates of this sort (see articles with Template:Discworld on them) QmunkE 14:48, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
'Series' is maybe better than 'novels', but it too sounds a bit strained. I've changed the rows to columns in order to dispense with the rather messy bars between titles; it gives it a very different layout though (!) which will probably not be to everyone's taste - comments? I personally prefer the rows layout, and it seems in line with other templates e.g. Template:Narnia, Template:Capital cities of the European Union etc. QmunkE 20:10, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay the second example is not very good but you get the idea! QmunkE 20:11, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've done another revision of the template at User:Time3000/Sandbox, to bring it more into line with other fantasy series tamplates (specifically Template:Discworld and Template:Narnia). It now uses <div> tags to arrange it, and the font size of the titles is now down to 90%. I've also added bullet points between the titles which looks a lot neater, and made the text of the (prequel) and (supplement) bits in the Belgariad section smaller. The layout is also back in rows - it looks much better without the bars (which was really my intention in converting it to columns - perhaps slight overkill there!), and the columns did look slightly weird when compared to other templates. I'll wait for comments here before putting it up, since the <div> tags coupled with the table give a 2 pixel bar between the header and the content. It's in my user space, but feel free to edit it. In the meantime, I'll revert the columns edit to the actual template. Time3000 15:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good, I'm in favour of replacing the current template with the sandbox one. QmunkE 16:14, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like it too. My only suggestions would be to have "The Dreamers (series)" rather than "The Dreamers Series", and possibly have the "High Hunt" redlink point to High Hunt rather than High Hunt (novel), unless and until there's a proven need for disambiguation. -- Perey 09:27, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've made a few modifications (mostly suggested by Perey) and replaced the actual template with the sandbox one. Time3000 11:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
