Format

The link is now piped to the name of the category prefixed with "Cat:" to help indicate that this is a link to a category. DES (talk) 13:32, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cat → Category

Does anyone object to just spelling the word out properly? There's no need not to since its in a template, and it could then usefully be used in nomination titles over at WP:CFD where by convention we use the full word. -Splashtalk 19:15, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to copy this one to Wikipedia if you think it's useful. --Singkong2005 talk 06:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!?

Hey!? Who stuffed around with the template? it was deliberately left at just Cat: so as not to take up space! Increasing it to its fuull length means its no longer useful for sfd-current. Grutness...wha? 08:21, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

change cat to category

I feel it's unnceissary to only type Cat in the tempalte, and not Category. AzaToth 16:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See the section right above this one. Perhaps there is space for both an abbreviated and a non-abbreviated template? Kusma (討論) 16:44, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First character upper-case

Since categories should always be capitalized, this template should make the first character of the category name upper-case, like so:

[[:Category:{{{1}}}|Cat:{{ucfirst:{{{1}}}}}]]

--Eliyak T·C 23:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnote should mention Template:Wikipedia category

{{editprotected}} Because Template:Category redirects here, I believe there should be some mention of the template {{Wikipedia category}}, which some people might be looking for. Perhaps in a hatnote? Lenoxus " * " 22:38, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added to documentation, which you're welcome to play around with as you see fit. Happymelon 14:42, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spell it out

I would like to concur with the people above that said it is silly to abbreviate "Category:" as "Cat:" in this template. Grutness, seems to say (in 2005) that there is some reason it shouldn't be spelled out, can anyone explain what that is? Dragons flight (talk) 20:39, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is still used by Grutness in SfD, and a few others, although some there seems to prefer spelling it out, and indeed using the Category:Living people format there. A template hack will allow them to carry on, while fixing those articles that use the template. Rich Farmbrough, 14:37, 17 April 2010 (UTC).[reply]
OK havk in progress, but we should ask them igf they need the abbreviation to Cat: as hacks are bad. Rich Farmbrough, 14:42, 17 April 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Support for including "Category:"

To follow the convention use in {{clc}} I was going to add support for using the full category name. So in other words allow {{cl|Category:Hidden categories}} to work as well as {{cl|Hidden categories}}. Any thoughts? --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:55, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
