Template:UK subdivision population/doc

This is a group of templates that provide an easy method to link to population statistics for the following UK subdivisions:

• UK nations and regions
• English districts (including unitary authorities, non-metropolitan districts, metropolitan districts and sui generis councils)
• English non-metropolitan and metropolitan counties
• Scottish council areas
• Welsh unitary authorities
• Northern Ireland districts

Subdivisions are identified by passing a GSS code as a parameter.

This template does not work for English ceremonial counties, Welsh preserved counties or Scottish lieutenancy areas which do not have GSS codes. For English ceremonial counties use Template:English cerem counties.

The templates are:

• {{UK subdivision population}} – gives the population for a subdivision
• {{UK subdivision density}} – gives the subdivision's population density (per square kilometre)
• {{UK subdivision area}} – gives the subdivision's area (square kilometres)

• {{English district total}} – gives the current total number of English districts
• {{English district rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by population (greatest first)
• {{English district density rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by population density (greatest first)
• {{English district area rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by area (largest first).

• {{English admin counties population rank}} – gives the county's position in a list ordered by population (greatest first)
• {{English admin counties area rank}} – gives the county's position in a list ordered by area (largest first).

• {{Scottish council population rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by population (greatest first)
• {{Scottish council density rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by population density (greatest first)
• {{Scottish council area rank}} – gives the district's position in a list ordered by area (largest first).

• {{UK statistics year}} – gives the year to which the estimate applies (not the year it was generated)
