This is a route-map template for a trail in {{{1}}}.

Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]

This is a universal template for all trail or footpath Route Diagram Templates (RDT). It adds the following text (without the surrounding box) to an RDT:

This is a route-map template for a trail in country.

For a key to symbols see {{trails legend}}.
For information on using this template, refer to Wikipedia:Route diagram template.
For pictograms used, see BSicon/Catalogue at Wikimedia Commons.

It will also place the template in Category:Trail routemap templates.

Usage

Country is specified by any valid ISO 3166-1 code.

Additional codes

The template also recognizes these unofficial codes:

Optional parameters

When included, the second (optional) parameter should be the parent article of the diagram.

{{Trail-routemap|UK|West Highland Way}}

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the West Highland Way, a trail in the United Kingdom.

Including the optional named parameter |type= will change “a trail in Country” to “a alternate text in Country”. For example,

{{Trail-routemap|UK|type=[[National Trails|National Trail]]}}

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for a Scotland's Great Trails in the United Kingdom.

and,

{{Trail-routemap|UK|West Highland Way|type=[[Scotland's Great Trails]]}}

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the West Highland Way, a Scotland's Great Trails in the United Kingdom.

The optional named parameter |the=anything will omit the word “the” before the linked page. For example,

{{Trail-routemap|UK|the=x|Hadrian's Wall Path|type=[[National Trail]]}}

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for Hadrian's Wall Path, a National Trail in the United Kingdom.

The optional named parameter |display= will replace the text of the article link. If display is set to either I or i the article link will automatically be italicized.

The optional named parameter |place= will change “a trail in Country” to “a trail in place, Country”. For example,

{{Trail-routemap|UK|Ridgeway (London)|display=Ridgeway |place=[[London]]}}

will change the first line of the template to:

This is a route-map template for the Ridgeway, a trail in London, the United Kingdom.
