Bob Nygaard

Created/expanded by Rp2006 (talk). Self-nominated at 16:14, 26 February 2018 (UTC).

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: Though not a fan of anti-quack groups, I found this subject very interesting and could feel much sympathy with Nygaard's cause.

Hey. Thanks for the review and input. Yes, the photo was uploaded at my request by the subject as I mentioned here. I just created a wikiquotes article and moved the quotes in the "Comments on psychics and victims" section all to there. My first wikiquotes work, so please verify I didn't screw up on that site! I also cut back on most of the other Nygarrd quotes. Is this sufficient? RobP (talk) 03:43, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Looks good, and I am passing. You might want to remove the sentence A sample of statements he has made in interviews discussing the fraud perpetrators, and their victims, can be found on Wikiquotes, which is highly unusual, and redundant with the logo that links to Wikiquote. Please note that there is a way to rewrite quotes into prose, as is explained in WP:QUOTE and WP:RECEPTION. Good luck with developing the article further!--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 08:56, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! I removed that line and made an attempt at summarizing some of the quotations in a few paraphrased paragraphs. Please check it out. RobP (talk) 12:17, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Nice work! Quick learner! While your waiting for the admin, you might want to check out the entries I've proposed. Just look for my name on the nominations page.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 21:27, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks again. I just noticed that the photo has been deleted from Commons. Trying to determine the problem~ RobP (talk) 11:20, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
OK. A new photo was added to Commons and to the article which I just also added to this DYK nom. RobP (talk) 15:42, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
The problem with the original photo was resolved, so I added it back. RobP (talk) 17:05, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
Okay. Good. What was wrong with the first picture?--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 16:29, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
See here for the goary details:[2] RobP (talk) 17:22, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
@Farang Rak Tham: All looks good to me now, but the DYK process, which initially went quickly, now seems to have stalled. Is there a problem? RobP (talk) 02:44, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
No problem, Rp2006. The next step is that an authorized DYK volunteer will close this discussion, and move the DYK entry to the approved nominations page. After that, the entry will be queued on the prep page. Though quite a lengthy process, believe me, there are other language Wikipedias where it can take literally years for your DYK to feauture on the front page. On this English wikipedia it usually takes less than a month.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 04:15, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I was wondering, does this guy have any critics or controversy? The article borders on POV as it is very self-aggrandizing of the subject. Yoninah (talk) 23:08, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Self-aggrandizing? I used all the available info I could find to write this, not excluding anything negative at all - because I found nothing negative. You are free of course to read all the sources to verify this. I guess no one in the media wants to take a pot-shot at someone who finds justice for folks being scammed out of their life savings by the scum of the Earth. Are you saying that being publicly criticized is a requirement for a DYK? RobP (talk) 00:31, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
I've checked a number of news sources, and i don't think the article is cherry-picking. But there may be too many quotes of Nygaard himself, which makes the article's narrative looks rather "salesy".--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 08:15, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
@Yoninah:@Farang Rak Tham: Yes... my writing style tends to be contrary to what other editors like, in that I do tend to frequently quote the subjects a lot in a bio. That was particularly easy to do in this case as much of the coverage of Nygaard included quotes of him discussing his work. I have attempted to "fix" that though now, and have paraphrased much of the previously directly quoted material. RobP (talk) 13:06, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
  • @Rp2006: My question was not about the quotes, but about whether he has attracted criticism or controversy. I see that's not the case. Unfortunately, when you "paraphrased" the quotes, you used the same words as in the quotes, which is close paraphrasing. Please change these back to quotes and then I can promote it. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 14:42, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Oh man! I made all those quote changes in response to Farang Rak Tham's 30 March comment just above: "...there may be too many quotes of Nygaard himself, which makes the article's narrative looks rather "salesy". I have now reverted back to the old version, with all the quotes. RobP (talk) 15:07, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I paraphrased one of the quotes, and perhaps more could be paraphrased or even deleted, but that's enough for now. Restoring tick per Farang Rak Tham's review. Yoninah (talk) 16:25, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

  • I think this image from the article is much clearer at thumbnail size. It is freely licensed. Also, here is a trimmed version of the approved hook:
  • ALT0a: ... that Bob Nygaard (pictured), a private investigator specializing in psychic fraud, has been instrumental in the return of millions of dollars to victims of this crime? Yoninah (talk) 16:29, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Looks good! RobP (talk) 17:06, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Striking other hook and removing other image. Yoninah (talk) 17:11, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
