Retirement Date

Dr. Burgdorfer did not retire in 1986, even though it's said in more places than this website. I know this as a fact because Dr. Burgdorfer worked closely with a U.S. pharmaceutical company in 1996+. He was head of a type of disease research at RML and used his standing, the equiptment at his disposal and other doctors at the NIH to help this pharmaceutical company. The president of the former U.S. pharm. company confirms this, along with communications between the NIH and the pharm company and of course Dr. Burgdorfer and the pharm. company. I don't know what else to say, what the specific retirement date is, I know the reason he retired, not the date. I believe the year was 1997 or 98. I just know the retirement date is incorrect and must be removed. Jason1170 (talk) 03:08, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I actually found the answer to my own question - if any cares, while Dr. Burgdorfer continued to stay on at RML as Scientist Emeritus, he continued to run his laboratory, regardless of his title. The doctors / scientists there casually referred to the facility as, "Dr. Burgdorfer's lab" and regarded him as their highest superior. Dr. Burgdorfer cut off all ties with RML at around the years I listed (97 - 98) because of special interests interfering with his final research project - researching a product that he and his lab helped developed, that he believed cured Lymes disease (after personally conducting in vitro trials and personally documenting the product killing all live cultures of the spirochete he discovered and B. Hermsii). He went on to conduct in vivo trials on rats. Special interests interfered after discovering his intentions, making it impossible for him to acquire rats. Upon going to a superior, he was told to drop the product and forget any future or past research regarding it (yes i know that 1 part cant be established from anyone else except the doctor) and he severed all ties with RML after that point. This is all confirmed by the pharm company who developed the product, who worked with him on this research project. Names are, of course, not disclosed in case people think I'm advertising for some company. -- Jason1170 (talk) 17:07, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
