AFAIK, Wythoff didn't use the Wythoff symbol: the first use I know of is in one of Coxeter's papers (I think it's the famous one with Longuet-Higgins and Miller enumerating the uniform polyhedra). Of course it is still named for him (presumably by Coxeter). Double sharp (talk) 20:37, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
Incidentally, we should probably get a Dutch speaker to weigh in on the pronunciation of his name, as it is non-obvious. Currently in speech I might try something like [ʋɛi̯tɔf] from what little I know of Dutch pronunciation (not a lot), but it'd be really nice to know what it's supposed to be.
