Attention Split-ists and Rescue Squad Members

Today I am completing a quite extensive split of content to this new article from the existing combined article at Whose Line Is It Anyway?. This includes pretty significant changes to both articles and should negate the arguments in favor of deleting the US article because it is/was too skimpy. It isn't anymore. We could use some more citations at the US article if anyone would like to help out. See the ongoing discussions here and here (sections 24-26). Number of episodes

This article had said 225 episodes for awhile, but if you look at List of Whose Line Is It Anyway? US episodes, it only lists 220 including the Best Of show. I am 99% sure the list article is correct, so I'm just curious if anyone knows where the extra 5 episodes came from. Maybe it was just a simple mistake though. I think I figured it out. The article started at 220 and then this diff added 5 more because the editor thought it was missing the 5 season 8 episodes aired in December 2007. However, I'm pretty sure the 220 figure had already included those 5 episodes. LonelyMarble (talk) 07:20, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Cast appearances

I have corrected the number of appearances for Carey, Mochrie, Stiles, Proops, Sherwood, Eston and Greenwood based on the information in the episode list article (previously, the list was based on data from IMDB, which was clearly incorrect - it had Carey appearing in 195; Mochrie & Stiles appearing in 194 of 220 episodes, though all three appeared in every episode of the show. Why does the infobox contradict the article text?

Why are two different dates for the run of the show given? The text in the article says that the show ran uninterrupted from 1998 to 2011 on two different networks. The infobox says it only ran until 2007. I thought that infoboxes were only supposed to have things in them that was already supported by the text. It does also say in the text: "unaired" shows till 2007, in the lead and the history section. --Musdan77 (talk) 02:27, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
So the show went off the air when? In 2007 or 2011? The text in the article should match the infobox and vice versa. Acps110 (talk • contribs) 02:34, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
I know it can be confusing in this case. It is explained in the text (maybe it could be worded better). Technically, it originally ran on ABC till 2004. Then started showing repeats on ABC Fam. in 2005, but they also showed never-before-aired episodes 2005-07, then all reruns 2007-11. I, personally, think that the infobox should say - ended September 4, 2004, but I guess there should be consensus first.

Number of Episodes for Kathy Kinney

I am here to challenge the use of IMDb as a reliable source for this article. Among the points I would like to bring up are: First, the show is listed on IMDb as having Drew Carey starring in 199 episodes, with Colin Mochrie and Ryan stiles in 198 each. However, the infobox at the top of the page lists 220 episodes, so too does the page List of Whose Line Is It Anyway? US episodes, showing that there is a conflict with what IMDb states. The host didn't appear in every episode? Second, on the List of Whose Line Is It Anyway? US episodes page, which details the show and production number, performers, guest stars, games played, and the winner(s) of each episode, Kinney is listed as appearing in only one episode in the first season, creating a conflict between the two pages. Third, of the episodes IMDb lists her in (101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, and 108), tv.com[1] and Mark's Guide[2], which is a reliable source for the List page, lists her as appearing in only episode 6.

Aside from those points, as I know the following in not capable of being used as a source, if you explore the episodes listed on IMDb as 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108 (their production order being different from broadcast order, 102 was broadcast as episode 6), you will find that the pages list games and quotations from the episodes which do not star Kinney. Through a combination of the initial airings, episodes taped during reruns, and late nights spent on the internet, I have personally seen every broadcast episode from the American version and know that Kinney appeared in one episode. I am not the most frequent user or editor here, but this is a complete misrepresentation of her appearance on the show and I do not intend to let up on challenging this. 67.181.76.194 (talk) 11:41, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

It is used as an external link. If you click the "full cast and crew" section, it lists Kinney with 8 episodes, but this is false. I tried to change her number of appearances once already and it was reverted. To avoid a war, I posted my above comments. 67.181.76.194 (talk) 16:16, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

CW Cameos of "Special Guests"

The numbers seem off for the episode count of CW actors appearing as Special Guests, with the Episode List showing each appearance happening only once. Are editors confusing reruns for premieres? 163.150.50.232 (talk) 16:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Wikitable

Really!? I stumbled upon this very unusual "wikitable" that has the most unusual layout I've ever seen on Wikipedia. Good thing I did. Who on earth approved this format? It doesn't even fit within the article. What does it matter whether Laura Hall (pianist) is involved, occasionally, or not in each sketch? The article is about the TV show, not the pianist. Furthermore, the "notes" are simply unimportant for this article since guest stars are not included in this table in relation to "performers". If anything, it should be "hidden" due to domination of the visual of the article itself. By the time one reaches "Secret", it's simply WP:UNDUE. Maineartists (talk) 01:22, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Table Adjustment

First of all, I wanted to praise the designers of the Games table; that must've required a tremendous amount of time and effort to make it look that fantastic. Well done. ...However, there is at least one goof that I've noticed. In the "Narrate" column the numbers don't quite add up. It's stated that the game was played 16 times and yet when you add the individual numbers up it comes out at 18. I went back and checked the game listings for each season and determined that in Season 6 and Season 7 the game was only played once not twice as shown in the table. I attempted to edit the data myself but I couldn't figure out how to do it safely. Where does one go to get info on how to edit tables? Awards and nominations/MOS:ACCESS

@Fishhead2100: Please quit with the warring and actually discuss the issue- starting the discussion does not automatically fall upon others just because you seem to believe you're right, FYI...

Anyways... as was explained to me (apologies, IJBall...), while the issue has been 'put away', general readability is still the goal, and the use of rowspan isn't super beneficial in that regards. I know I'm awful at explaining things/putting things into my own words, but I know you've had to seen the main answer/comment regarding this. Rowspan is certainly not 'required' in the table in anyway, and at this point it seems like you have three editors disagreeing with those edits. Also going to say I'm fine with whatever is linked (in regards to 'Primetime Emmy Awards' or the year- that part doesn't really matter much at this point).

At this point, some other things I'd like to point out...:

  • I know you haven't edited the article since September 2019, but I'd rather you not come to my talk page within hours (not even hours, within minutes of this edit) just to tell me everything 'wrong' I'd apparently done. The, "I can say for certain you didn't bother to try and find sources." is actually quite rude (and I know I replied already, but read the full edit summary of mine next time... it should be clear that it's not just because it was unsourced.)
  • I was trying to be good faith when giving those original replies on my talk page (as well as all the cleanup edits on the article itself), but now your initial talk page comments read off as a bit dismissive and discouraging to myself, seemingly attempting to find all the bad in my cleanup of the article. I know you've been on Wikipedia much longer than myself, but that's certainly no excuse to not assume good faith. ("So you might want to do before telling someone to source"?... Seriously? You added that within 10 minutes of this edit- didn't realize I was going too slow for you.)
  • It's clear that there is/was cleanup needed on this article, especially when the section previously looked like this. I hope you won't try to interfere more with cleanup, especially when I attempt to fix/cleanup all the episode tables (for reference, see Talk:List of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (American TV series) episodes#Episode table parameters- parameters are being misused, such as using 'title' to display the airdate, 'Viewers' to display special guest stars, etc.)

I apologize that someone other than yourself is trying to do this cleanup, but it's certainly not my fault the article has been in this shape for however many years (and no, I'm not trying to pin the 'blame'/'fault' on you either). Thanks. Magitroopa (talk) 05:41, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

@Magitroopa: FYI: I wasn't the only one reverting. IJBall was reverting as well. So don't tell me to stop when said user was reverting as well. I have had people come minutes after an edit and leave something on my talk page. Don't take it personally. I edit lots of stuff, so I don't get to everything on my watchlist. Realistically, you don't either. If you must know, I am currently doing a big format for a list which is formatting it to a table. Sorry if not getting to everything everyday is a problem. Now, even if you didn't do the table exactly the way I did it, at least link to the year/edition the awards ceremony was held where it says year. It makes no sense to link it in the award section of the table when that is used to link to the award. Maybe I was a little hasty in your bold removal. When I seen a big part of an article removed, I usually look more closely at it. But this time I didn't which is unlike me. That I apologize for. It was after I left the message that I read your whole edit summary. I do appreciate your edits. Finally, it's hard to find sources for international broadcasting of the show.
