Question
Does anyone know the orgin of this term's use in business takeovers? If so, it would be an interesting addition to this page.

Expand please
- Per the above, some history and references documenting the term's use should be added to the article, if available, to establish the notability of the term.
- The terms "grey knight" and "black knight" might be better explained here than not - Grey knight was recently deleted and the far shorter Black knight (business) article probably should be as well, given that it is only a single sentence long.
- Please source and attribute the claims that the companies mentioned in the examples section were acting as white knights. Reads like WP:OR in its current state. MrZaiustalk 19:57, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

- Oppose: to most people a white knight or a White Knight is first a sort of chessman. Plus all the other meanings listed in disambig page White knight. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 17:31, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why that would be, since knights in chess can either be white or black. I don't see people making an immediate association to chess. Also, it's not making the business term the primary topic, just primary for the lowercase spelling of it.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 18:59, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - Gah, this is a tough one. I agree that there is no other article eligible for the lower-case name, but the business usage is somewhat obscure and WP:ASTONISHing if put at primary. I feel like the white night title deserves a WP:BROADCONCEPT in the same way that black knight is constructed, and I think we should wait on this move and push for that instead. -- Netoholic @ 10:08, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Netoholic: There is already a broadconcept for that, it's knight-errant, but they are not necessarily portrayed as white knights, so I am not sure that redirecting White knight there would work too well unless there is enough to support a section about their portrayal as white knights.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 11:47, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah that knight-errant article is just not what I had in mind. Its very focused on the real knights, whereas we need an article for white knight which covers the concepts that were inspired by the knight-errant. -- Netoholic @ 11:53, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
