More work needed

This article would need quite a bit more work to bring it into proper shape. If we see it as an overview article then it should ensure to refer to all the existing sub-articles on sub-topics. I just added some wikilinks but much more work is needed here. If indeed we need the article. There might be overlapping article like we recently found out for Water access and gender. EMsmile (talk) 13:01, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your feedback. I will make sure to use your ideas to expand my draft. Jlouro1 (talk) 16:38, 25 October 2021 (UTC)jlouro1[reply]

Case study on Kenya mentions eroded and polluted water is "difficult to retain," but does not explain what this means. Noting it to consider reintroducing the topic in a later edit. CMcD77 (talk) 17:19, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Don't see the difference between point of use and small scale treatment, nor do I see PoU used anywhere as an accepted abbreviation for this term. CMcD77 (talk) 20:03, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CMcD77: I don't understand the points you are making here? If there are changes to be made, I suggest you explain here what you plan to do and then you just go ahead and do them (or vice versa: make the changes and then summarise here what you have done). I had a quick look at this article. What I don't like is: a) there is overlap between the section on "water purification" and "small scale water treatment". b) the article goes into too much detail for some of the topics, e.g. the parts on water purification. I see this rather as an overview article that should link with all the existing other articles. E.g. for water purification it is sufficient to give a few overview sentences but otherwise to refer readers to water purification. In fact, some of the content that is now in the section on water purification should probably rather be moved to water purification. Overall, this article should give an overview about all the water issues but not go into great depth for any of them. EMsmile (talk) 02:05, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Restructuring to make it more like an overview article

I have just done some restructuring to make this more like an overview article, ensuring it links in all the right places to the appropriate sub-articles (of which there are many). More work is needed, for example the lead needs to be made longer (4 paragraphs would be good). Also need to check if more sub-articles need to be linked and from where links need to be made to this article.EMsmile (talk) 02:03, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Improving Balance

Though many different developing regions are mentioned in the "Rising demand, availability and access" section, most of the specific information seems to apply to only Asia and occasionally Africa. Very few specific references to the water situation in developing countries in South America are made. All three images depict issues in South Asia, which are not necessarily representative of issues elsewhere. Balance of the article could be improved by adding images of other water concepts in developing countries in Africa or South America. The article would also benefit by adding at least one South American country to the "Country Examples" section. Michelleboralessa (talk) 02:46, 11 April 2020 (UTC)Michelleboralessa[reply]

I see you have added Panama as an example. Thanks. EMsmile (talk) 06:33, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

General Suggestions

The lead could definitely use some more information to put the information into context and perspective for the reader. Given it’s a very broad topic, the reader would benefit from a brief background explaining how the author chooses to explore the topic and how he plans on discussing the various essential elements (proportionally) relevant to the discussion of the topic. The visual representation could also be improved by including more relevant images that portray not just the problem but projects that have been put in place to address the concerns as mentioned in the article. The author decided to use three countries as base examples to examine the issue but doesn't really tell readers why he decided to use those countries and this could lead readers to suspect some bias on the path of the author. Finally, though not pressing, the article could have had more reference articles and materials from the places and countries the author highlighted which would improve the authenticity of the information presented on those places and as a plus also be supportive of the movement of allowing natives to tell their own story. --Hibrahim2110(talk) 03:57, 11 April 2020 (UTC)Hibrahim2110

Hi User:Hibrahim2110 thanks for your edits. Just a reminder that not all Wikipedia authors are male (you wrote above about "he"...). EMsmile (talk) 06:34, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Headers and subheaders

Changes were made to a few headers and subheaders to make them more relevant and specific to the information they addressedBic.nello (talk) 07:21, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Touch-up

Some additional revisions were made and previous ideas were expanded upon to make the article more detailed and informativeBic.nello (talk) 07:23, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

References Need Updating and Replacing

There are some references that lead to old pages that don't work anymore. We are finding new sources to back the information already stated in the article, but will need help replacing the outdated sources. --Ducklemonadestand (talk) 04:06, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Global Programs Section

More can be written about these global Programs, as the article was written over a decade ago. Much has changed and been accomplished by these programs since then, so we will cover this in the article. GaellePLouis (talk)

More photographs may helped

Should we add more related photos to this article? Tinammys (talk) 17:28, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that would be good. EMsmile (talk) 13:46, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rewording Part of Lead

The first sentence of the second paragraph in the lead section has too many prepositions and doesn't have a good flow. I propose it be changed to the sentence below.

Lead, Second Paragraph (first sentence changed):

Water contamination remains a prevalent problem because practices that pollute bodies of water are normalized. In developing countries, open defecation still persists and the associated health risks that come with it such as cholera and malaria remain a nuisance, especially to the vulnerable, in most communities. In developing countries, it is estimated that diarrhea takes the lives of 1.5 million children every year, most of these under the age of five. --Ducklemonadestand (talk) 06:03, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Call for the data to be updated annually

Thanks to all editors who contribute to this article! But the number of people helped by organizations on water issues, the number of water equipment those organizations constructed are increasing every year, and the country's population is changing every year. Outdated data can lead to misjudgments, such as a 10 times difference in the number of people being helped by the Water Project.Tinammys (talk) 13:59, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it all relies on volunteers to be adding and updating data. So please go ahead and update data. EMsmile (talk) 13:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The newly added content about Bangladesh

I noticed the newly added content about Bangladesh. I think some of it is too general and too broad. It might be better to move that to Water supply and sanitation in Bangladesh and to just leave a short summary and link here (or to use the excerpt function). If we added the same amount of detail for each country, the article would get very long. See also the comment I made above about the India example - same problem. EMsmile (talk) 13:50, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the Bangladesh content to Water supply and sanitation in Bangladesh and replaced it with an excerpt. EMsmile (talk) 04:34, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how to deal with the country examples section

I don't know what to make of that country examples section. The content there repeats information that is available on sub-pages, such as water pollution in India or water supply and sanitation in India. Maybe it's better to use excerpts from the leads of those articles? But also, how long is this list meant to get? How to select just e.g. 5 countries? Maybe it's better to just supply the links to sub-articles and let people click through to those pages? EMsmile (talk) 02:09, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Perhaps add more countries to have a more diverse set of examples? Links would be helpful but I don't think they should replace the content. GaellePLouis (talk) 00:25, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have done some work to streamline the country information for Panama and Bangladesh by using the excerpt function (does someone know how to remove the infobox that is included in the excerpt?). The same work still needs to be done for Kenya and India. EMsmile (talk) 04:34, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More mentioning of economic factors in relation to obtaining water

This article is very well written, however, some mentioning about how water can also be impacted by economic factors within developing countries could further highlight how important of an issue obtaining a clean water source is. Many of these developing countries do not have a strong economy which is a big contributing factor in regards to the scarcity of clean water. The idea of water having a price tag displays how citizens of these countries have to pay in order to survive. With clean water becoming more and more scarce, the cost may be driven upwards which will put yet another burden on these struggling countries. Maddydowling27 (talk) 06:04, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
