Fair use rationale for Image:WAPS logo.png

Image:WAPS logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

WAPS (FM) → WAPS — "WAPS" is official callsign for this radio station per FCC online database. As such, "WAPS" should be the article title per WP:RADIONAMING. Blcklght8 (talk) 23:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

  • To reiterate, "WAPS" is the official callsign listed w/ the FCC online database; per WP:RADIONAMING, "WAPS" should be the title of this article. I say "should" because there are three other articles on WAPS (disambiguation) which use the letters "WAPS" as an abbreviation (note: I moved WAPS to WAPS (disambiguation) prior to this request to free "WAPS"). Still, "WAPS" should still be the title of this article; a simple redirect template placed at the top of this article -- should it be renamed to "WAPS" -- could easily redirect those who reach this article in error. The redirect could read something like: "This article is about the radio station in Akron, Ohio. For other uses of WAPS, see WAPS (disambiguation)." Blcklght8 (talk) 19:11, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

• Strongly disagree as WP:RADIONAMING is quite clear on this point: "If more than one article has the same base call sign, or if an acronym or some other common usage shares that call sign: a disambiguation page should be created at the base call sign." To do otherwise would disrupt hundreds (perhaps thousands) of articles involving AM/FM combos, radio/TV duopolies, and all of the other combinations that led to this carefully crafted naming document. Multiple Issues

Among the article's many issues:

• The general tone in sections is promotional, e.g., History and Rock & Recovery. The Advert template covers this, but a POV template could have been applied as well.
• The citations are insufficient in number in terms of the amount of material, inadequate in terms of the information they provide, e.g., Mondotimes, and unreliable in being self-referential, e.g., Kidjam, Rock & Recovery and WAPS/The Summit. To improve, independent published sources must be used, e.g., the Paste magazine cite (the article's only reliable source).
• Regarding paraphrasing, the section that includes the Mondotimes citation begins with a verbatim sentence from the source. I suspect this true elsewhere because of the tone issue, but can't verify this for lack of citations.

Some of this is a shame because the History section has good material, but unfortunately there's no way of knowing whether it's true. Allreet (talk) 05:05, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
