Mojave Saloon

The article does not mention the saloon Virgil Earp owned and operated when he lived in East Mojave, California. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Desertphile (talkcontribs) 14:22, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious images added

Dubious image of Virgil Earp
Dubious image of Nellie Jane Earp, Virgil's daughter

OSMOND PHILLIPS recently added an heretofore unknown image of Virgil Earp and another unknown image, allegedly his daughter Nellie. These images appear to be from the dubious and so-called "Phillips Collection". Some people believe the images in that collection, found by a stranger many years later, to posses some authenticity. Though the contribution is well-intentioned, the photos do not have any provenance attached to them. Unless the contributor can provide better provenance, they should be removed. From my lay perspective the additional image of Virgil appears to be vastly different from the only other known image of him, which appears in the article's infobox, and extremely dissimilar from the known images of his brothers.

As much as I'd love to add more images to the collection of articles about Virgil Earp and his family, which I have contributed to for several years, the images need to have a better history and origin attached to them. As noted on Osmond Phillips' talk page, he or she has contributed a large number of related images without provenance that have been quickly deleted. I suspect these two images may also qualify for rapid deletion.

Many individuals share similar facial features and faces on people who look radically different can look similar when viewed from certain angles. Because of this, most museum staff, knowledgeable researchers and collectors require provenance or a documented history for an image to support physical similarities that might exist. Experts will rarely offer even a tentative identification of new or unique images of famous people based solely on similarities shared with other known images. — btphelps (talk to me) (what I've done) 09:46, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Virgil Earp

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Virgil Earp's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "wgbh":

  • From Wyatt Earp: WGBH American Experience: Wyatt Earp, Complete Program Transcript (Television production). 22. Vol. 2. January 25, 2010.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 18:14, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
