Social science?
I cannot see how the study of "a sense of place that is revealed in ordinary people's language" is anything other than social science. MRSC (talk) 11:51, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Vernacular region
My observation, based on this article, is that the term "vernacular geography" is common in the UK. In the United States, the term that often appears in the literature of place names is "vernacular region." The two concepts are similar, which probably explains why the article, "Vernacular regions," was redirected to "Vernacular geography," yet different. The differences, as well as the wish to provide a non-academic, American perspective to the topic, inspired me to add a section on "Vernacular regions" to this article.
