Assassin's Creed

You can clearly see Assassin's Creed-like images on all the posters and trailers of this movie, moreover the plot seems to be related to the game. Many people stated it here, so please stop deleting their edits.

Thank you. 70.79.50.57 (talk) 03:48, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment, Assassin's Creed is an amazing game. Pretty thrilling how a Tamil movie is going to be based on a video game for the first time. It's pretty rare for unregistered IP address users visit this talk page as they go ahead and make changes automatically to the article, as they do with many Tamil cinema related articles. Good thing this article is protected. EelamStyleZ (talk) 16:08, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the costume part to the article with reference. As the Original poster said, the costume is clearly inspired/copy of Assassin's creed. -BiLLa- talk 18:32, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Altair is the potagonist of AC I, Ezio of ACII. And the poster looks more like Ezio —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.129.224.34 (talk) 18:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Then, it must be discussed here before removing from the article. Otherwise, I'll keep adding it. -BiLLa- talk 16:53, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's WP:SYNTH to post a link to a side-by-side set of images and say "see, they look alike". DMacks (talk) 23:39, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just got told off by Karthikndr for adding the info. Apparently it's "not constructive". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vistafreak (talkcontribs) 04:04, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Plot

Genelia is a prostitute who happens to see an accident in which a bunch of goons die. She takes this opportunity to create a fictional character called Velayudham . She writes a letter that Velayudam has done this assassination to end the rowdy deeds in the city. Word spread like wildfire that there is a guy called Velayudham who is the protector of the common man. Genelia takes more opportunities to popularize the character. There is a Ponna guy called Vijay who has a widowed mother, a beautiful and cute sister , Saranya Mohan to take care of. As his sister's marriage is fixed, Vijay goes to Hyderabad to get the zero lakhs he saved in a chit fund company. There he happens to be involved in a few bomb blasting incidents and avoids all the bomb blasts without his knowledge. People start to think that he is Velayudam. Genelia meets him and explains him about her mission of ending nonsense in the city, who is more interested in retrieving money from Chitfund Company and going back to village to participate in his sister's marriage refuses to enact the role of the legendary Velayudam . But later on the chitfund company turns out to be bogus. By looking at victims of the chitfund company committing suicide, Vijay wears the mask of Velayudham to stop corruption in the city.--Simy2j (talk) 07:44, 1 August 2010 (UTC)--Simy2j (talk) 07:44, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever you do, just don't add that to the article until the actual movie releases. Velayudham is still not confirmed to be a remake of Azad. EelamStyleZ (talk) 04:11, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Genre

Please do not change the genre as it is not a masala film and it is a superhero film or action thriller as you can see the images and posters. It is said that this movie will be an entertainer but there is no statement that this is a masala film. So, please don't change the genres by adding false cit referances. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.192.114.150 (talk) 03:23, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I insist unless this news comes under Indian Media. They are just comparing poster with Assassin Creed [whatever], but now have become a so big issue. Wikipedia is not a news too. As said earlier we require a reliable source like The Times of India, Oneindia.in, or at-least Behindwoods.com or IndiaGlitz. But none of those site have mentioned that as of so far. -- Karthik Nadar (talk) 04:11, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since when was local news the only valid source of info? Wikipedia is supposed to unbiased. Even if Ubisoft chooses not to sue (which is possible), that's got nothing to do with what we put in the article. Controversy section

This section has been deleted several times today, mostly by IP editors and WP:SPAs. The most recent deletion included the edit summary "improper sources, undiscussed, irrelevant and redundant here!" I don't see what's wrong with using GamePro as a source, and it seems quite relevant to the article's subject. Angry Python (talk) 15:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source you provided is a bare comment, and the person doesn't seem as an expert in the field he takes care of, nor is he notable enough to be used here. Discussing is not enough, you need consensus before restoring the section, as I have removed it now. I'll try getting the opinions of more editors, before which the section must not have a place in the article. Moviecrow is not a good source, by the way. Two users, reportedly socks were blocked for adding the site to many articles. Secret of success Talk to me 16:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In case any editors would like to actually read what was deleted again by User:Secret of success (ostensibly with the aim of gaining consensus), it can be found in this edit. Angry Python (talk) 17:05, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know nothing about Moviecrow but if the general consensus is that it's not a reliable source then that creates a problem for this section as it's the main source of information. The Gamepro link it just one editor expressing his opinion and he's not even clearly stating that it is a rip-off. By itself it's not a sufficient source to establish that a controversy exists. I spent some time searching the Internet for any other references to this and while it's being discussed in forums and blogs all over the place I could find no obviously reliable sources discussing it. Again, assuming Moviecrow is not reliable and given that Gamepro is reporting on the fan outrage more than any facts surrounding the case, then the section should not be included without finding a better source. SQGibbon (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was quiet busy in constructing Ra.One, hence forgot to care about Velayutham. Firstly SQGibbon is right, Moviecrow is not at all a reliable source. Regarding GamePro as source, we can't trust the same for film Tamil film related. If your mentioned controversy regarding assasi....... is true, then is other media sleeping. So wait n watch to findout its true or just a bit of timepass work -- Karthik Nadar (talk) 18:28, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think, this matter is slowly spreading all over. I have now seen two popular German video game magazines (I am living in Germany!!), PC Games ([1]) and Games Aktuell ([2]) reporting about this; others might follow. And besides GamePro, there are records/commentaries/notes in many video game-based sites/magazines/blogs like Kotaku ([3]), Screw Attack ([4] and EGM ([5]), too. And it's being discussed in numerous forums as well. I don't know what you consider as a reliable source and what not (Moviecrow, btw, is certainly not a reliable source!), but I guess, this cannot be swept under the carpet anymore. This could become a serious issue soon! Johannes003 (talk) 21:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Johannes, good sources you got. You are right, if it is so, this issue will slowly spread among Indian medias. -- Karthik Nadar (talk) 06:12, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So far all the sources supplied seem to be editors from game sites who notice the similarity but then don't provide any actual facts about the controversy like if Ubisoft is aware of it and are taking any actions or any comments from the producers of the film. We need something substantive from a reliable source and not just people (editors, bloggers, forum posts, etc.) speculating about the connection. SQGibbon (talk) 07:35, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We can cover it without making it sound like a controversy. The observations are verifiable through reliable sources. Saw (film) has a section about how it was compared to Seven without throwing the word "controversy" around. There doesn't need to be legal repercussions or anything like that to report others' observations. Erik (talk | contribs) 17:47, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That section in the Saw article has more detail than the sources listed above. For one thing it has a reaction from the people who made Saw. And then the critics talking about the film actually come right out and make the comparison whereas what I've seen so far (and based on the sources above) it appears that people (the reliable sources) are just talking about a perceived resemblance and aren't asserting as fact or making it part of their reviews. I'm afraid that no matter how it's phrased it will comes across as undue weight until a reliable source actually makes the strong claim that the film is ripping-off the game. It'll probably happen soon enough so it's just a matter of finding a really good source and not one that's just reporting fan reaction. SQGibbon (talk) 18:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey all... seeing the posters, trailers, web sources, etc any human eye can tell that this movie has elements from Assassin's creed, my question is how wikipedia will let users know about this to its users ? plain and simple.. And more over if controversy is not a good name to let people know about the truth behind the copying of elements from the game then where should this information should go ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.178.144.238 (talk) 16:52, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to read the Wikipedia guideline on original research. Just because you think the connection is obvious is not sufficient for inclusion in the article. You need to cite reliable sources who make that specific claim (and aren't just reporting on fan reactions). I'm sure that if there is anything going on here it won't be long till sources show up that meet Wikipedia requirements for inclusion in the article. For example if Ubisoft released an official statement or the producers of this film said something then that would work. SQGibbon (talk) 18:31, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How to let wikipedia users know about truth related to this movie and Assassin's creed ?

Hey all... seeing the posters, trailers, web sources, etc any human eye can tell that this movie has elements from Assassin's creed, my question is how wikipedia will let users know about this to its users ? plain and simple.. We should be able to use reliable sources to make the comparison. Just search for Velayudham "Assassin's Creed" in Google News Search for some headlines. I think "Controversy" is a loaded word, so I think that a section heading called "Comparisons to Assassin's Creed" would be sufficient. For example, the Good Article Saw (film) has a section heading called "Comparisons to Seven (1995)". By the way, I encourage you to change to a username that can be used more generally? I mean, do you plan to use it even after we resolve this issue? :) Erik (talk | contribs) 15:00, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the section just above this one where we've been discussing the issue. SQGibbon (talk) 16:28, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is a south Indian movie called Velayutham which is releasing/ed on 26th, of October. But the costume that the main hero uses in the movie is copied from Assassins creed game. Not only the costume but also some moves and actions which the protagonist of the game Altair can do in the game. There is also a Facebook page which is related to this topic, Its Vijay's Velayutham copied from Assassin's Creed (You can type this exact words in Facebook search bar to find that page). But Velayutham the movie team didn't have any legal rights to copy the character, But the Assassin's creed game is copyrighted under the correct law is has to be, the developers & publishers can file a case to this film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.134.101.129 (talk) 07:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the film, and is no where related to Assassin's creed. He just uses Assassin's creed costume for few sequence. -- Karthik Nadar (talk) 18:20, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not true. He draws the dagger the way Ezio does in the game. Deliberate attempt to plagiarize. -BiLLa- talk 23:52, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All the above is incorrect. Of course velayudham story is not related to assassin's creed, but his costume and fighting styles which resemble assassins creed prevail throughout the movie. Yes, that became the fictional characters official superhero look. Maybe we can add a section that describes "curiosity about the films similarity to assassins creed that people initially had, but all was proven false". Velayudham vs Assassin's Creed - Official News

It is no secret that Velayudham has borrowed some elements from the video game series Assassin's Creed (well, only the costume and the fighting styles) but its story is completely different which is also a well-known fact. Here are some sources that describe Velayudham vs Assassin's Creed (I believe they are reliable enough):

Is that proof for an official medium in the form of a facebook account? You need third party sources, independent of the subject, giving out the news. X.One SOS 09:52, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have proof that that account is officially Ayngaran's? Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. This clearly does not satisfy that criterion. X.One SOS 15:35, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I always see that Vijay's films are always ignored.Though you say that facebook sources are not allowed, the collections for mankatha are still being accepted, which is also declared by Sun Pictures in one of its social network. But this was accepted by many sources and even wikipedia. Give me reason please.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharu wikki (talkcontribs) 07:00, 26 February 2012

If anything, please see WP:OSE. Mankatha's collections came from Behindwoods.com, a regular Tamil film portal. Source. It does not mention any Facebook crap, but only says that Sun Pictures disclosed it. Hence, it becomes a third party. If the same happens for Velayudham, I will be happy to add it.
