Has anyone ever heard of a "Special List" with regard to assignments for RAF pilots? It's from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Thank you. Anne (talk) 23:30, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

I think that it's not an assignment but an indicator that the officer was only qualified for certain duties. The opposite is General List for those officers who had undergone full training. That Collins only has RFC/RAF service i.e. didn't originally belong to another Army unit and who was seconded to the RFC suggests that he was "fast tracked" into the RFC and therefore couldn't be used elsewhere. Typical examples of Special List officers are doctors and dentists who undergo a bare minimum of military training before carrying on their professional duties but in uniform.
This is the type of question you could pose elsewhere e.g. WT:MILHIST where you're more likely to get a full (and correct) answer. NtheP (talk) 15:09, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
