Plagiarism

Federal court case

Is this Montilla the same that was involved in the April 14, 1972 Federal Court case against the U.S.? (see http://vlex.com/vid/38400902) --Eustress (talk) 03:37, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Additional Section

There is information under "Career...Producer" which should be placed in a separate section, perhaps under "WIPR Presidency":

" In 2005 he was designated as President of the Puerto Rico CPB, heading two television stations (WIPR AND WIPM) and two radio stations (940 AM AND Allegro 91.3).

Images removal

I removed Image:WAPA_America.jpg and Image:EmmyAward.png. While Montilla helped PR compete for and win several Emmy's, he himself never won an Emmy—and even if he did, the inclusion of the image would not be necessary on this page. If there were a picture of Montilla with an Emmy, that would be different. Similarly, the WAPA logo is not directly applicable to this page and is not necessary. Most importantly, the copyright statuses of each image have not been extended for use on this page, so they were not permissible anyway. Consult WP:IUP if more info is needed. The Governor's Award that Montilla was awarded is an actual Emmy statuette. Nonetheless, photo has been replaced with one that includes both Montilla, and Bob Behrens, representative of the Academy. WAPA logo has been replaced as well, with picture from the actual press conference with Montilla and several other representatives from both stations.QueCreativa (talk) 10:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

More issues with this article

  • What does this paragraph have to do with Montilla? "At a cost of 28 million dollars, the new facilities - which include an electronic room, master controls, three studios, studio controls, antennas, and cameras in Hato Rey and Mayagüez-, set a new technological standard for production and broadcasting in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean."
    • And this paragraph: "Through this agreement, TUTV, agreed to provide 16 hours of local programming weekly, that were added to the 78 hours that Televicentro de Puerto Rico had been transmitting through WAPA América."
  • Most of the article has no citations--some having been tagged as so for over a month. If it is not properly sourced, I will move it to this talk page until reliable sources can be found. Also, Wikipedia can't cite itself as a source!
  • What does Image:Boricua_emmys.jpg have to do with the article?
  • This entire sentence is WP:POV and has been removed: "It has been a long and hard road for Puerto Rican television productions to get the recognition they deserve, but Montilla’s belief in the quality of the island’s productions, has probably been one of this industry’s biggest assets."
  • This article discusses more about companies, alliances, and merges than it does Montilla. Stick to Montilla!
    • I removed a bunch of talk about the NATAS award--stay on topic. If you want to create a separate page about the award, do that, but don't put it here. Please review WP:BIO.

  • As to the HD facilities, and TUTV agreement: These are historic events in PR where Montilla was directly involved. The HD facilities where established under Montilla's incumbency and Montilla was directly responsible for signing the agreement that would provide the export of Puerto Rican television productions.
    • If you believe the information is pertinent, just tie it more closely to Montilla--it was very disjointed before. --Eustress (talk) 21:57, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Image "Boricua Emmy's" goes to establish the press coverage of this important event in Puerto Rican television.

  • The sentence removed: "It has been a long and hard road for Puerto Rican television productions to get the recognition they deserve, but Montilla’s belief in the quality of the island’s productions, has probably been one of this industry’s biggest assets." is a direct magazine quote, and not POV.
    • If that's the case, the entire paragraph should go in quotes, otherwise it is plagiarism. The way it was formatted looked like you typed it and just attributed the ideas to a source. --Eustress (talk) 21:57, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
  • The NATAS Award information that was previously on the page goes to establish the importance of the Award, as well as the importance of the work done to receive such award. It is the highest honor bestowed by the Academy so reasons for it being awarded seemed pertinent. Information was directly obtained from the Board of Governors.

Ok then, I added a few external links that support the article in making it "verifiable". I have a few questions though...

    • How do I go about getting the article to WP:Good article status?
    • Do I have to wait to be nominated?
    • I wanted to work on translating the article into Spanish. Should I work on status before translation?
    • Do I have to "create" a new page in the Spanish Wikipedia, or is there some code that could go straight on this page to link to a Spanish version?

When you want to create the article in Spanish, you will add es:Víctor J. Montilla at the bottom and then create the article from the link produces, but I would strongly encourage you to go through GAN first, as you will be given many things to improve from there (and many changes will take place)--not much sense in having to translate everything multiple times. Good Article Nomination (GAN)

Eustress, I noticed you moved the banner to the top. Thank you! I can't figure out which of the categories it would fit into (Media or Television would be appropriate, but neither exist). B class

I'm changing this article from start to B-class to reflect that it exceeds the start class criteria for an article. There are some troubles with the tone and prose (it is more effusive than I would like in an encyclopedia), the image troubles need to be resolved and the lead needs to reflect the body, BUT the sources verify the text, the wording is clear and descriptive (harder than it sounds) and the article places the subject into a larger context.

Here are my suggestions for helping this article pass GA:

  • Ensure the references are cited in some consistent manner (this isn't strictly required per the GA criteria, but it helps to verify sources).
  • Modify the tone of the article to reflect the fact that this is an encyclopedia article: section headings like "Road to the Emmy's" might seem boosterish.
  • Convert the lead so that it more closely follows the MOS with regard to biographies. Try to make sure all salient points in the body are summarised in the lead somehow.
  • keep up the good work.

Like I said above. Clearly a notable and interesting subject. Clear prose. Largely good work. If we get through the image issues, this will sail through a GA nomination.

  • Quite a few of the references need to be formatted with Template:cite web.
  • The lead needs to summarize all the main points of the article.

Copyright concerns

After removing the inappropriate OTRS tag from this page (it referenced an OTRS permission letter received in 2006 in German unrelated to this subject), I discovered that content in the article duplicates and is closely paraphrased from [1]. I have done a full search of our OTRS system and find no permission on file for this text. Given what looks to be a fraudulent (or at least confused?), I believe this needs closer evaluation.
