I'm a grandchild of someone in the 12th Army Group. His name was Edward John Collings Sr. or, as his friends called him Babe. I've been looking for any information on him that I could find, but have come up short every time. Now I ask you, whoever is reading this posting, if you know anyone or any place I could go to look for info. He was a bronze star winner, which he won for his actions in 1 February 1945 to 9 May 1945. If you could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.87.68.91 (talk • contribs) 23:15, 3 February 2005.
Were they ever under Monty
As the article correctly points out, Monty was Commander-in-Chief of all Allied Ground forces in Normandy (Bradley's First US Army and Dempsey's Second British Army). When Patton's Third US Army was activated, Bradley was promoted to command 12th Army Group (Hodges' First US Army and Patton's Third US Army) leaving Monty with 21st Army Group (Dempsey's Second British Army and Crerar's Canadians). So far, so good. Was there a brief period from mid-July until Ike set up SHAEF HQ in France in which Bradley had his own Army Group but still reported, at least notionally, to Monty? If so, Monty would have been CinC 21st Army Group but also still technically CinC Ground Forces. It might be helpful if somebody could look up the exact dates.Paulturtle (talk) 13:55, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
