Brooklyn Bridge: truth and fiction

User Lightning49 had added a paragraph which on the face of it was original research. The user asked a question about this on the WP:Help desk#Box with broken blue lines (on December 19, 2009 - I don't know how to create a link that will get updated when the item is archived), actually about the formatting, and I have fixed this.

But the content of the paragraph is from a personal communication, and should really be removed; except that part of what it says is that the previous paragraph though referring to a real event, fictionalises it. Assuming that nobody can find a published source that says that Kupferberg was or wasn't injured when he jumped of the bridge, it is apparently nevertheless the case that the claim that he was uninjured occurs in a 'prose poem', not a news report, and therefore may indeed be fictional as Lightning says.

I don't know how best to handle this (I don't know anything about the subject matter), so I have left the paragraph in (reduced a bit) with a 'citation needed' tag. Lightning's concern (and, reportedly, Kupferberg's) was that his reported lack of injury is both false and dangerous. But it doesn't seem right just to remove the reference to the Berrigan and Waldman poem, since (I presume) it is a verifiable fact that the quoted lines do occur in the poem: it's just that they are not a reliable source for what happened. --ColinFine (talk) 16:58, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
