Cruciform Ligament

You note that the transverse ligament of the atlas is also known as the cruciate ligamet of the atlas. My Gray's Anatomy calls this the cruciform ligament. There's an Wikipedia article request for Cruciform Ligament. Is the transverse ligament a synonym for cruciform ligament? Is cruciate maybe a typo? SueHay 18:11, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for raising the issue. I've created an article at Cruciform ligament of atlas to clarify. The transverse ligament is the horizontal portion of the cruciform ligament (per this definition.) Both "cruciform" and "cruciate" mean "shaped like a cross", so in this context the terms are interchangable. Note, though, that there are other cruciate ligaments. --Arcadian 19:05, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
