I made the first paragraph non-controversial by extracting bits of his bio from his website, and moved most of the existing content to the 2nd paragraph, which still needs improvement.

I propose deleting the 2nd paragraph, mainly because it is unsourced. RosinDebow 16:31, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Since there were no objections, I'm moving the 2nd paragraph here. In addition to the unsourced problem, I think that the second part of the paragraph is misleading, because much of his output is original, not covers of classical or rock tunes.

He has become famous for his distinctive style, which involves frequent use of effects and extended techniques yet maintains pleasant and sweet tone. Two of his big inspirations were electric guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. This is mainly because of their mastery of the feedback effect and its use in their compositions. Apart from modern interpretations of the works of classical composers (Vivaldi, Mozart, Bizet, Bernstein) and his own compositions he also covers Hendrix's music as well as other widely known popular music, most notably The Beatles. Silverman has collaborated on jazz, classical, pop and rock records and his own recordings cross all of these genres. Most of his music has been released on the Windham Hill label.

Notability

I added labels to the discography towards satisfying the notability criteria (see Wikipedia:Notability (music))

• Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable) -> Nonesuch, Chandos, and Windham Hill are all important labels in the classical and crossover categories.

I believe that as mentioned in the article, being featured soloist in a major new work by an established composer for the opening of a major new concert hall also goes a long way towards satisfying notability, and it may also help to mention that with the Turtle Island String Quartet he toured nationally and internationally.
