George Laidlaw or William Gooderham
According to the book Roses and Thorns by Gladys M. Suggitt, William Gooderham promoted the building of the railroad, getting approval from the Ontario Legislature on March 4, 1868. The contract was awarded to John Ginty and Co. of Yorks Forks in the Autumn of 1869 for the 78 miles from Scarboro Junction (Scarborough Go Station) to Coboconk. George Laidlaw promoted the Victoria Railway, which was built in 1872 to Haliburton and was in competition with the Toronto & Nipissing. Pages 255–257. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 23:25, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
