Tonus is not just muscle tone, it's also used to discuss the tonicity of arteries, etc. As a musical term it has essentially zero currency, as a medical term it's a reasonably "hot" item.

There's probably a way to disambiguate, but if this entry is changed, don't merely re-direct it and lose this important meaning of the term.

Hi, Love26, and welcome to Wikipedia! Please note that Wikipedia is not a dictionary, so starting an article off with "A dictionary entry..." is a bad idea. Also, Wikipedia already contains a detailed article about muscle tone, so describing it again on this page (especially without even linking to muscle tone) is also a bad idea. On the other hand, I can't find a Wikipedia article about this other meaning you mention related to arteries, so starting an article on that might be a good idea and I encourage you to do so. A disambiguation page makes a lot of sense. However I think the discussion of tonus on the muscle tone or muscle page would better be avoided since mining therein gets to be tedious for any but the "power user".

A problem with wikification in general is that, e.g., I could effectively eliminate mayo clinic by simply re-directing its entry to clinic.

Ontologies are a bitch, much like multiple choice examinations or "soup or salad" menus that seldom have your actual choice listed!

I didn't understand much of what you just said, but pay close attention to this and it might clear up some of your misconceptions: Encyclopedia articles are not about words. They are about concepts. If the same word can refer to two different concepts, there should be two different articles, and if two words refer to the same concept, there should be one article. —Keenan Pepper 21:28, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
