Manifesta 8

Colonel carried out many interventions at Manifesta 8 but there is a strange situation with Wikipedia in that the article on Manifesta is incredibly being deleted although there is nothing wrong with it. Sorenonilsson (talk) 23:16, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note on participation in the Venice Biennale

Just wanted to add a note on Geoffroy's cited participation in the 53rd Biennale. The only reliable source I found on the subject was this, an article by Seamus Kealy from the Canadian cmagazine (not freely available, only linked from Geoffroy's site). The article is thorough (and kind of good) but, in line with his work, there is no evidence that he was invited to the Biennale—it looks like he invited himself with an insurgency piece. Anyone can show up in Venice and call themselves an exhibitor—it doesn't associate you with the Biennale's festivities or approval. So it would be incorrect to say that he has exhibited in the Biennale since there are no reliable sources that show that he was invited or officially included in the event in any official, invited capacity. (Side note: it is also ironic to stage an event in opposition to the Biennale for being an elite institution, only then to use that uninvited "participation" [read: showing up unannounced] like a sanctioned endorsement, using the benefits of the event's prestige [that the artwork supposedly intended to subvert] when convenient for your career [read: defending your Wikipedia article's criteria for notability/inclusion].) czar · · 21:23, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

His self proclaimed "Biennalist" art format seems to involve him turning up and parasitically recording/filming events, if I understand it correctly. Generally Geoffroy's participation in things seems quite amorphous, or arms-length as a facilitator for other artists. Sionk (talk) 23:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which is fine—that's his life. My only concern is using his Venice Biennale participation to establish his notability. There are other salient points to make about his notability, but his Venice Bienniale participation was unsanctioned. It's like doing a guerrilla performance piece in the lobby of MoMA and saying you performed there—disingenuous, not useful for a notability argument. czar · · 23:11, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Probably the fact there is little coverage of his appearance at the event is testament to the importance (or lack of) we should put on it. If someone makes an unnofficial appearance at a venue or event and it's widely reported, it would add to his Wikipedia notability regardless. Stating the obvious here, I expect :) Sionk (talk) 23:15, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's actually a really good point. If he was actually in the VB, he would have much more coverage. My comment was more of a warning for the future when press mentions of his VB "exhibition" inevitably slip back in. czar · · 23:25, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
