The Queen's Case

The Lords held that when cross-examining a witness about his prior statement the circumstances giving rise to the statement must be called to the witness's attention and the statement, if made in writing, must be shown to him. The Queen's Case, 2 Br. & B. 284, 129 Eng. Rep. 976 (1820).
