Comparison with Edinburgh Fringe

Despite the claims by the official website, this festival is smaller than the Edinburgh Fringe in almost every way. We shopuld not write that it is the largest theatre festival inthe world. DJ Clayworth 14:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that it might be some unknowledge about the festival, but I can say that the Iberoamerican festival is much bigger that the Edinburgh Fringe. Even though the Edinburgh Festival is older and Europe have known more about Scotland Festival, I just have to mention that people attending to the festival and Countries performing on Festival, Bogota's Festival is MUCH better that Edinburgh's. I have been in both and I can do the statement about both. From today, I will be on the work of comparing both formally.(81.132.15.132 15:53, 22 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Any comparison with the Edinburgh Festival and clarification is appreciated. As of now the Iberoamerican Theatre Festival has been marketed as the largest in the world. I'd think the way to know whether it is the biggest or not could be by comparing some statistic facts between both festivals.

Apparently the Edinburgh Fringe is much more than a theater festival (in the sense that many of the performances would not be considered real theater. According to the article, the Fringe is part of the Edinburgh Festival, along with other events. Among those other events is the Edinburgh International Festival which does cover theater and closely related arts, and is thus in the same category as the Ibero-American Theater Festival. So maybe the question boils down to "how does the Edinburgh International Festival (rather than the Edinburgh Fringe) compare to the Ibero-American Theater Festival"? Well... I don't know.
On the other hand, there was an interesting interview with Fanny Mikey, founder and main promoter of the Ibero-American Festival, in Semana magazine. In it, she says:
"[The Ibero-American Festival,] as a theater festival, is the largest in the world. There is the one in Edinburgh and the one in Avignon, which has local groups with three or four guest countries, and I invite 43..."
It's not clear if she is saying that both the Edinburgh and the Avignon festivals have only three or four guest countries, or only the Avignon one, but it does shed some light regarding the criteria under which the Ibero-American Festival may be considered the largest in the world. 132.192.14.104 (talk) 05:03, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Edinburgh festival certainly has many more than "three or four" countries represented. I think in the absence of any evidence-based like-for-like comparison, this article shouldn't be repeating what for now is no better than a marketing claim. Mrtorrent (talk) 09:16, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
