I'm wondering if it's particularly unusual that the Review didn't accept advertising, as here it's cited as a reason for its financial difficulties. When did print advertising take off in America? I haven't found evidence (yet), for example, that any of the 19th century magazines accepted advertising: Graham's Magazine, Burton's Magazine, Broadway Journal, Godey's Lady's Book, American Review: A Whig Journal... they all seem to focus on subscribers too. Anyone know more? --Midnightdreary 13:19, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
