Why group the Chancery and Probate together?

@BD2412 and Leeapp: Why are these two court systems combined here? It is practically impossible to find a good source that combines Tennessee + chancery + probate + courts (the search would mostly return regurgitation of few online sources, like Wikipedia itself). It is very easy to find either Tennessee + chancery + courts or Tennessee + probate + courts separately. Should this article be split? Викидим (talk) 18:49, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Викидим: In Tennessee, the Chancery Courts handle probate matters, unless a given jurisdiction has specifically created a Probate Court. See Probate Committee of the Tennessee Clerks of Court Conference, Probate Guide (September 2012): "The jurisdiction over the probate of wills and administration of estates is now vested in the chancery court unless a particular county has a special court for probate created by private act". Whoever created the article entitled it with both courts, but my understanding is that they are two distinct courts and should not be combined in a single article Leeapp (talk) 22:24, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since by default the probate is done in chancery courts, in this particular case a combination might make sense. I have added to the lead wording describing this arrangement, so the readers are not WP:SURPRISEd. Викидим (talk) 22:52, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
