Torsten Olafsson

This page and a few other pages have been edited by a person named Torsten Mukuteki Olafsson. Mr. Olafsson continues to harass and abuse members of the international shakuhachi community and promote a heavily evangelical christian message about this flute from Japan. This is widely accepted in the Ethnomusicology sphere to be nothing more than bitter posturing. It is not the work of someone who wants to protect the truth about this music only grind his axe and rally against a group he feels slighted by. The tone of his additions are confrontational when they should be neutral. Out of respect for the practitioners of this instrument in Japan and outside of it it does no one reading this page any service to see the contributions he is adding. A wikipedia article for Shakuhachi and the musical history that goes along with it should not depend upon the writings of one fringe academic. If Mr. Olafsson would like to make a page specifically about his theories he would be well within his rights to do so while keeping in mind the rules of wikipedia.
Furthermore Mr. Olafsson has been working to promote another fringe individual. An American in Japan, himself a radical Christian. Mr. Olafsson's work on these pages works to disenfranchise shakuhachi teachers around the world in an effort to funnel studnets (thus money) to this person. The American in question believes that he has a monopoly on shakuhachi teaching and perfroming that was granted to him by God claiming that he is the best shakuhachi player and teacher in the world and citing his Youtube following as "gospel truth" of this. It is embarrassing to the shakuhachi community to have these be the representations of this tradition when in fact they are fringe beliefs held by grifters and their lackeys.

Whether or not the views embarrass the shakuhachi community isn't important here, what is important is verifiability and reliable sources. Olafsson's personal religion also shouldn't have any bearing but the website likely doesn't meet WP:RS as it is self-published and only Olafsson's own views. The article is now almost solely based on articles from "The Annals of the International Shakuhachi Society - Volume 1"; how reliable is that source? ? Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 06:29, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
