England/English

I saw the to and fro here category-wise. He is clearly an England player - but is he actually English by any reasonable definition? I don't have much to do with sports-related articles, but for example Mark Lawrenson is in the categories "Republic of Ireland international footballers" and "English footballers", which seems about right. Should MacRae not be in Category:Scottish footballers - or perhaps both this and Category:English footballers? Ben MacDui 17:12, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What evidence do we have that Macrae was actually 'Scottish', other than being born there? GiantSnowman 17:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Again, forgive my lack of sport-related experience, but in my world, that is in and off itself evidence of Scottishness. Both his forename and surname also more than hint at a Scottish connection. It is evident that he played football in England - beyond that is there any evidence he was English? There is a blog report claiming that he played rugby for Edinburgh Academy. Maik Taylor was born in Germany, but isn't German. Steve Lomas has the same story. GiantSnowman 18:07, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Taylor didn't have a very German name. A guy called Stuart Macrae born in Scotland - Occam's Razor.-MacRusgail (talk) 18:44, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But Daniel Gordon is German. Odd ;) GiantSnowman 18:51, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
