Should also cover the brad awl (or bradawl) which is used for making holes in wood and wotnot.

Stitch type
I think that the stitch currently described where a single needle catches an existing loop is chain stitch rather than lock stitch. Lock stitch must use a second needle or bobbin. MarkMLl (talk) 22:40, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
with a groove in it
i have seen an awl with a longitudinal groove/slot running almost the entire length, but the article makes no mention of such feature, is it normal or not an awl. (haha, try saying that when half asleep) 79.75.42.129 (talk) 10:33, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
