The meaning of "stepmother."

Before my edit, stepmother was defined "the current wife of one's biological parent." This definition is obviously meant to allow for the possibility that one's natural mother has decided she wants to live as a lesbian, and has married her partner. But think about it: if your natural mother is a lesbian, she is still your mother, and the woman she marries does not serve in her place. Your natural mother's lesbian wife could not possibly be your stepmother—no more than she would be if your natural mother had conceived through in vitro fertilization. If she was a mother in a previous relationship (with a man or a woman), her new wife would be the stepmother.--Belagaile (talk) 17:32, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A step-mother doesn't serve in place of a mother. She is the wife of a your natural/biological/legal parent. For example, my step-mother who married my father doesn't serve in place of my mother just because my parents are divorced. They are all my parents. This definition has a circular logic in order to exclude same-sex step-parents. 217.192.101.2 (talk) 20:10, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
