Scientific names in plural

This discussion should probably be held somewhere more general. Feel free to move it to where it belongs. And put a link here to where you put it.

I removed the plural s from "All S. californicas have sensors near their legs that allow the praying mantis to lose its head and still function" as I feel the scientific name should not be violated by an english suffix. This is, however, my personal oppininion being a sweede. In sweedish such violations are strictly forbidden. And as carlifornica is considered a name here, the corresponding plural form carlifornicae won't work either.

Now, this is an english site and I'm not sure about what rules apply here. Any comments?

I think you are right.

Main article picture Stagmomantis limbata and not S. californica?

I have doubts on weather the person on bugguide who identified the mantis in the photo has identified it correctly. But I do not know how to differentiate the two species at the age of this nymph and from that angle in the picture.
