oddi /argenine

I just read in an article that nitrates have been tried in the control of S.O.D. and with some success. The supplement L-Argenine is considered a powerful precurser to nitrous oxide. The article said that nitrous oxide is essential for regulating the schincter. It seems like L-Argenine could be another means to treat this, with fewer side effects like drowsiness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Interestedperson (talkcontribs) 19:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"A conceivable explanation for our results is that endogenous NO released in the biliary tract after L-arginine treatment exhibits a tonic relaxing influence on the Sphincter of Oddi More Details and the biliary tract which enables the CCK to induce emptying of the gall bladder. However, with the present study we could not demonstrate the site of action of the infused L-arginine, whether NO is exerting its relaxing effect on the gall bladder smooth muscle itself or on the Sphincter of Oddi" cited from the Indian Journal of Pharmacology (online). http://www.ijp-online.com/article.asp?issn=0253-7613;year=2004;volume=36;issue=4;spage=262;epage=264;aulast=Basanagouda —Preceding unsigned comment added by Interestedperson (talkcontribs) 19:43, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proir to being diagnosed with SOS, the nitrates were the only relief from the pain.Pains were radiating into my chest area, was hospitalized 3 times for chest pain, as long as the nitrates were in effect I had no pain.
