Who the f*** is Eugene F. Lally?

And why does he keep adding his self promotion to this page?

Gentlemen: This is not self promotion, it's history. My nuns from St Augustine's in South Boston would wonder about your language. I am E. Lally and I grew up in S. Boston, went to Northeastern U. then worked at JPL/Caltec in Pasadena and became a world known Rocket Scientist etc. at the start of the space race. I was a friend of Krafft Ehricke a german Rocket scientist among others. I conceived many of the original space missions to the planets as the concepts were presented in the 60s at American Rocket Society meetings. All my cousins living in Southie wonder why I am not shown on the S. Boston page so I am just trying to update the History of the great S. Boston. I visited there last month and was asked again. I have a web site www.lallyphotography.com since currently I work in archaeology and photography and write for magazines etc. and lecture. The bio on that site may help you understand the scope of my work.

I also grew up in south boston. I went to the Bigelow School down the street. Lived there for over forty years. I never heard of you. My cousins in Southie never heard of you. I asked a couple of politicians in Southie if they heard of you. They didn't. You are no more a famous person from Southie than i am. Get over it. BTW, saw your page and nothing indicates that you should get any mention on the Southie page. You seem like a Californian.

Changing population

Even though South Boston has gay and lesbians to say that it boasts a "large number" is suspect. Considering the lawsuit to keep gays and lesbians out of the St Patrick's Day parade it is not known as a neighborhood friendly to GBLT people. The name South Boston is often confused with the South End which has a large gay and lesbian population. The other Boston neighborhood with a large gay and lesbian population is Jamaica Plain.

Parts of South Boston are undergoing gentrification. This is especially true of the City Point area. Other areas such as the public housing projects have changed from predominately white to having more racially integrated populations. Dubhdara 14:51, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gays and Lesbians were not banned from the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The organization GLIB was denied participation in this parade which now privately run through fundraising efforts of South Boston residents. Gays and Lesbians as far as I know are welcome to march in the parade representing something other than who they prefer to have sex with and I'm certain that they do.--[[User:]] 21:44, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but the above observation is quite untrue.

Having been born, raised and schooled in South Boston (Bigelow School, PF Gavin) I can assure you that Southie has large numbers of Polish-Americans (Andrew Square), Lithuanian-Americans (E Street) and Italian-Americans (all over the place).

The projects are far more racially diversified with both Hispanic, Asian and African-Americans moving in. A simple walk down West Broadway with your eyes open will show you that.

What is untrue? The numbers from the US Census are accurate. Why remove links to it?

These ethnic groups are unnotable. South Boston is notable for the Irish. No one neighborhood page makes a point of listing every ethnic group represented in the community. South Boston is notable as a Irish community.

Well, I don't know if you've ever lived there. As I wrote, I have. While Southie is is "notable" as an Irish-American community, Andrew Square has a "notable" Polish-American population and E Street and West Broadway (where the Lithuanian Club is located) has a "notable" Lithuanian-American community. And, the black, yellow and brown faces that I see on West Broadway are "notable". The Mexican restaurant on Dorchester Street (across from Magoo's) is "notable". The Vietnamese / Chinese take out places along West Broadway are "notable".

Wake up and smell the kung-po. The public housing projects are mostly non-white and non-Irish. Southie has changed, is changing and will keep changing. Why do you keep removing links to facts? And being a born and bred South Bostonian I'm proud of my neighborhood. And I have no problem in writing about how it's changing. What the articles on other neighborhoods list is the business of their authors.

To the above, I have to comment, the sentence about "almost all the parishes are Irish Catholic" is inaccurate. First off, not all Irish Americans are Roman Catholic. Secondly, even among the Catholic churches, most are not ethnic based, and among those that are ethnic based, it's a Lithuanian church that comes to mind. Also, has anyone noticed the Albanian church on Broadway?

Concerning the racial make-up of the residents in South Boston's public housing: Since the 1940s it has not been completely white. When I went to school in Southie in the fifties and sixties I had African-American classmates who lived in the projects. Court ordered integration began in the seventies.

How do you prove that the public housing is still predominately "Irish-American" when other "-Americans" live there? "Italian-", "Polish-" and "Lithuanian-" Americans have always made up a large part of Southie's population. Dubhdara 05:53, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're wrong. There are 3 major housing developments in South Boston, commonly referred to as D street, Old Colony and Old Harbor. Dorchester Heights is in the center of South Boston, not the border of Dorchester. Although South Boston is thought of as mostly Irish-Americans there have always been large groups of Polish, Italians and Lithuanians as well. It was dorchester neck because there was nothing else there. Then they filled it and created South Boston. Dorchester Heights is over a half mile from Dorchester at it's closest border to South Boston. If there are no Italians in Southie what the hell is Italian Pride Night for? Koreans? Ya, no s*** it's closest border is South Boston because it was annexed and the surrounding area became South Boston. I said there were hardly any Italians in Southie, not none. The following paragraph is terrible. . .

South Boston is a neighborhood that actively involves children and young adults. Two common places for children and young adults to attend to after a long school day would be the Neighborhood House (ollie) and the South Boston Boys & Girls Club. At the Neighborhood house, which is located up the point of South Boston, some children and teens are able to go there once schools let out. They are able to do their homework, play in the gym, use computers and attend dances on Friday nights. At the Boys & Girls Club the ages range from 6 to 18 year olds. At the Boys & Girls Club members are able to attend different area such as the gym, games room, discovery or the library. Each area is made for all the members to interact with different tasks. At the Boys & Girls club members are able to go from 3 to 9 o'clock if they are of appropriate age. There is always a great event that taks place on Fridays at the Boys & Girls Club. South Boston, Boston → South Boston — To reverse the redirect pointing here since 2004. "South Boston, Boston" is never used in the real world. Disambiguation in the title is not automatically required for neighborhoods, and based on pageviews and incoming links, the Boston neighborhood is the clear primary usage over South Boston, Virginia and the stub at South Boston, Indiana, for which I've added a hatnote. Olympic Games would transform industrial district

If Boston were to win the Olympic selection in 2017 experts say that it would improve the industrial district that has been long been struggling with development. Edits for Wikipedia Education Program Course

Updated Lead Section the lead section with more modern information and expanded upon what was previously put there by the previous editors.

Added Demographics because there was no demographics and I felt that it was important to the people that live in the great neighborhood of South Boston.

Added Urban Policy was added because there was no previous section about urban policies and how the Olympics would affect the great neighborhood of South Boston.

Updated Community Resources because there was only a list before and I expanded upon the individual services available for the residents of South Boston.

Updated Transportation because I was outdated and did not include the new train and bus station that was recently built and the redevelopment of South Boston.

Updated Public Housing because it was outdated and did not include recent projects or upcoming projects that South Boston has planned in the near future.

Urban policy

This paragraph:

"Article 89

Article 89 is urban policy pertaining to Agriculture. This Code specifically is about urban agricultural activities through the Boston area, mainly farming. Other aspects of agriculture that are mentioned are soil safety and composting. According to rules and regulations regarding composting in South Boston, the policy states that the compost maximum height can be no greater than 10 feet and must remain a minimum of 5 feet from property lines.[32] Although the farming community maybe smaller than compared in the Southern parts of the United States but there is still interest in rural activities that take place in urban cities despite peoples popular belief that a city, especially one as urban as Boston, would not have rural activities and practices that it's citizens could proudly take part in as often as they would like."

New Article for Seaport/Innovation District?

I know this has at one time been merged into this article, but this was before the current real estate spike that is going on. With GE officially moving into the Innovation (Seaport) District I felt it was a good time to consider splitting the articles and expanding more on the Innovation District. I've also seen MANY tags for the Innovation District that specifically link to the South Boston article with an anchor for the Seaport section. Garchy (talk) 22:26, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp of South Boston

I have just added a few details and sections. For a better flow I rearranged certain sections and moved things around. I added some history and background, there is a section on the policies of South Boston. I also added a section on Harrison Loring House as well as a small section on the South Boston busing.This is being done in the Wikipedia Edu Program so I would appreciate edit suggestions made to me rather than just changed. Wiki course updates

I added some more background information about the schools and some local parks. Providing address and some personal information with the schools so if anyone is interested they know where to go, call and whom to speak with. I updated some information about housing and ethnicity around South Boston. In addition I added a section about Saint Patrick's Day Parade since it's a major deal for those who live around that ares. I included some statistics about those who are working and its population. I added some more memorials and arts that are shown around Southie. I went into details and added a section about restaurants. I know people are always looking for a great place to eat some one casual night life. I listed some retail businesses. Updated economics numbers and also the age race and ethnicity of South Boston... This is being done for coursework in the Wikipedia Edu Program so I would appreciate edit suggestions made to me rather than just changed. Orphaned references in South Boston

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of South Boston's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
