Sound Reduction Index is a perfect name for this artcle, constructors and specifiers need to have a quick reference point to understand this term, which is very commonly used. – — … ‘ “ ’ ” ° ″ ′ ≈ ≠ ≤ ≥ ± − × ÷ ← → · § Quietstone (talk) 10:46, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why not simply remove the heading "Sound insulation" and substitute with "Sound Reduction Index"? Bewp 14:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Sound Reduction Index" is just one definition of how to measure and define the sound insulation characteristics of a construction. I feel it is a bad name for the article. "Sound Transmission Class" is the name of an existing article on the American methods.

I feel that a super-class of "Sound Insulation could and should be used to cover both the mentioned articles plus several others, some not yet written. I haven’t had time to do what I feel is warranted.
