Article name

Should it be referred to as the Sixth Labour Government or the first NZ First-Labour government? The article itself refers to it as a NZ First-Labour government. Mattlore (talk) 02:37, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fits with the established convention. All post 1996 governments have been multi-party but have taken the name of the largest party. Kiwichris (talk) 04:07, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure it is the same situation. In 1996, it made sense to see it as a continuation of the 1990-1996 National Government, and it makes sense to have one article about 1999-2008 rather than a 1999-02 Labour/Alliance article and an 2002-08 article. We haven't had a coalition government since then. Here, for the moment, it is three years of a Labour-NZ First coalition government and I think the name should reflect that. Either way, it will be soon clear what reliable sources refer to the government as and as always wikipedia should be guided by the sources. Mattlore (talk) 23:19, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

At least two news articles have referred to the "Sixth Labour government".[1][2] I expect more sources will follow this usage. It has become a very well established convention to refer to "X National/Labour Government". --Hazhk (talk) 00:00, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Format sections

I don't know if it's just me, but is it weird having the section of 'Policies' first rather than 'History' first? Any thoughts, @Clesam11:?Typhoon2013 (talk) 23:04, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Typhoon2013: I wouldn't say it's that much of an issue, but it probably does make more sense to have a background/history section come first. "Sixth" Labour Government

Don't mean to be pedantic except it was slightly annoying trying to find it

Could someone with a lot more Wiki Tech skills than myself create a re-direct from people searching for "6th"

As all the other Labour Government articles use the actual digit so I just assumed this would and it couldn't find it

Greens and "confidence and supply"?

Since there are Greens as ministers in the cabinet, why are the Greens considered to only be offering "confidence and supply" rather than being part of the government? --Jfruh (talk) 08:47, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article name again

All 3 parties in the current govt and all official speeches and interviews from Jacinda Ardern now refer to the current government as a "Coalition Government". In fact both Winston Peters and Ardern have been at pains to clarify it should no longer be referred to as a Labour lead Govt.

Surely this article should follow the governments own naming conventions and the name should be changed to reflect this.

Have to agree with TheMightAllBlacks. I had a read through documents relating to the 2019 Wellbeing Budget and they refer to this Government as a "Coalition Government". If nobody objects, I could move this article to the title Coalition Government (New Zealand)? There is already an article on Coalition governments. Any ideas? All governments of New Zealand since MMP was introduced in 1996 have been coalitions. It would make sense to consider all of them if we are going to rename this one. Also remember the 1931 United–Reform Coalition. I suggest moving this discussion to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Zealand/politics, with a mention at WP:NZWNB to get further input.-gadfium 01:54, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This suggestion by gadfium is good because the question has wider implications than this article and input from a wider range of editors is appropriate. A move to Sixth Labour-led Government of New Zealand and moving all previous MMP coalition articles to the same format seems right to me. Please note the spelling of "led" here. Ministerial List

As of 2 November, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced her full cabinet list. When should we update the List of executive members at the bottom of the article? According to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet's website, the Ministerial List and Ministerial Directory Webpage will be updated after all the Ministers have been sworn into office on 6 November.^[1] So should we wait until after 6 November? "Significant policies and initiatives" section

If the "Significant policies and initiatives" section is a list of things they intended to do, some of which they did do and some of which they abandoned, this should be made clearer, as many of the items are written as achievements, rather than as just intentions. I think it would make sense to update the section to reflect the policies which the government actually implemented. Trimming

Hi there, this article is over 576,000 bytes. Most of the fat is the history sections. Per the discussion on the New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board, I have taken the initiative of creating two draft articles for the two terms of that Government.
