Background In 708 CE a ship from Ceylon, sent a present to Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, a certain Muhammadan girl who had been born in their country, the orphan daughters of merchants who had died there. The ship was captured by some "Meds of Debal". Hajjaj requested Raja Dahir to return his gift. Raja Dahir replied, "He has no control over pirates, and he is helpless in this matter". This fueled al-Hajjaj. Some historians claim that this cannot be the only motivation, as he was keen to expand Umayyad Caliphate it seems he used this opportunity to conquer Sindh. He wrote multiple letters to Khilafat’ Abd al-Malik' and finally got the approval. He then appoints Muhammad ibn al-Qasim for the conquest of Singh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sachidananda Hullahalli (talkcontribs) 07:12, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
