Organization?

How was the siege train organized? Did each numbered army have one? East and West Departments? Perhaps they were a US Army-level thing? Were they manned by dedicated crews or on an ad. hoc. fashion? Paul, in Saudi (talk) 17:16, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

(Reference section on Naval Guns) Please look at Edwin Bearss' 3-volume set on the Siege of Vicksburg. The 1st U.S. Infantry (Siege Guns) used 30lb. Parrot rifles as well as IX-inch Dahlgren smoothbore guns at Batteries McPherson, Maloney, and Logan. The guns were supplied by the US Navy, but hand hauled, set up, and used by the Regulars. Seacoast artillery

I'm thinking of doing "Seacoast artillery in the American Civil War". I have Ripley's book, which includes the major gun types. I may get Stark, Olmstead, etc. "The Big Guns" as well. Any comments? RobDuch (talk) 01:49, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
