African violet

As part of an initiative to prune entries in List of colors: A–F, List of colors: G–M, and List of colors: N–Z, one entry I reviewed, "African violet " is linked to this page. While this page has an entry, and a supporting reference, I note that if you use the Pantone color finder and search for African violet, the query will return four colors

  • PANTONE 16-3520 TCX HEX/HTML B085B7
  • PANTONE 16-3520 TPG HEX/HTML B185BA
  • PANTONE 16-3520 TPG HEX/HTML B185BA
  • PANTONE PQ-16-3520TCX HEX/HTML B085B7

Which are very similar but not identical. A diligent editor may wish to explain which one was chosen for the article and why, and add some commentary about the existence of alternative attributes for the same named color.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:06, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed it from List of colors: A–F. If someone sorts this out, I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a ping so I can restore it. Thanks.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:36, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal from list

An entry in List of colors: A–F contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • American violet

An entry in List of colors: G–M contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • Metallic violet

An entry in List of colors: N–Z contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • Rum

I don't see any evidence that this color is discussed in this article and plan to delete it from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries

If someone decides that this color should have a section in this article and it is added, I would appreciate a ping.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The shade of "violet" shown at the top of the article should be changed

The color shown at the top of this article is based on the HTML/CSS color names, but in this case it's definitely not violet, it doesn't even meet any definition of it. I believe that we can all agree that it's much closer to a shade of pink. I understand that the W3C colors are the ones that the English Wikipedia uses as standard, but in this case I find it nonsense. We should form a consensus on the shade of violet that should be shown as the "standard" one (at the top of the article). I propose that it could be the violet that is halfway between blue and magenta in sRGB (#8000FF), which is a common definition of the color. 8-leaf clover (talk) 00:37, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
