Difference in action from semitendinosus?

Does anyone know why there are two separate muscles -- the semimembranosus and semitendinosus -- with almost identical insertion and attachment points? Presumably there must be some difference in the action. From introspection of my own body it seems that the semimembranosus has more of a knee medial rotation action than does the semitendinosus, but all the references I can find list identical actions for both muscles. It would seem that the two muscles work together one providing extra support to the other. This is from looking at an excellent app The Muscle System Pro III Iztwoz (talk) 20:32, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image size

Infobox is far too large for article. Also relevant muscle is only in lower part of image. Cannot find another image to use and do not know how to reduce the size in the infobox. Iztwoz (talk) 10:23, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
