Merge

I strongly object to a merge with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty which is only about medical issues. Seclusion of girls at puberty is a social tradition, intended to prepare young girls for their future role of women. It takes different forms in different societies but it is present in most societies.

For example: In Swedish television a year ago a doctor said that a lot of young girls, 11-14 years of age, cut themselves, try to do a suicide, run away from home, begin to have eating disorders, start using drugs, etc... indicating that young girls at that age are under a lot of social pressure, from parents, other girls and others in their social environment. Seclusion of girls at puberty is a social tradition which is not directly coupled to medical changes.

The rites of passage for boys usually happens at a higher age, like 16-22 years of age, again not directly coupled to medical changes. Social traditions, like hazing, bullying, marriage, is one thing. Medical changes at puberty has very little to do with these social traditions. Therefor Seclusion of girls at puberty should be a separate article and not merged with Puberty. Roger491127 (talk) 02:04, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
